Being autistic, adhd and random stuff

Happy to read that you had a positive experience
I have been going to her for just over a year, and she seems to have figured out how I work. She knows how and where to prod when I am not dealing with stuff. She also seems to have a better than usual grasp of the exhausting push-pull that I suffer from having both Autism and inattentive ADHD. When it was getting to a choice of therapist or mistress, I knew enough about myself to make sure I found a non-threatening female therapist. My only nervousness was that she might be "distracting." It turned out that although she is tall and slim, which is my type physically, she was not distracting in the way I had feared. I find her pleasant and attractive, but she does not fascinate my mind in the way that would get my libido interested. So, that worked out nicely.

Today I return a library book completely unread, and feel like a failure for doing so. But it's sitting atop a stack of three books I bought after I checked it out. While I read Dungeon Crawler Carl #8 instead which published after all of them. I don't have a problem, you have a problem. And so does your mom.

I see no problem😁

Someone wise said that if a book fails to grab your attention after ten pages, put it away. There’s plenty other books.
Same with Lit stories of course. I admire people who have the patience to review shitty works

I didn't even open the fucking thing. I started binging literotica around the same time.

If the blurb sounds interesting, it goes home with me. If I can sustain interest through the first chapter it gets read... however, it might take a long time to happen. I finished off a book the other day that I had been dipping into on and off for about eleven months.

I only buy second hand from World of Books ( in the UK ) That way if it's no good, it's not cost much.
Other advice to self - Stop lending books!!! I've now bought three copies of Jeanette Winterson, Lighthousekeeping. It's a classic I keep dipping into.

Yep, I have a fairly close working relationship with several secondhand book place. :D I am also at the point where there are only about three people I will loan books to.

Noise cancelling headphones literally feel like someone is pushing on my eardrums with a q-tip. I have to use passive noise absorption.
I bought apple earbuds and I'm not impressed. They don't cancel noise or stay in my ears. My over-ear Bose headphones are fab but they're wired
If I'm trying to concentrate at home I use a loop of ocean waves on a shore. ( I've a feeling I may be repeating myself there! )

I have never quite found a 100% effective solution to the noise problem. Headphones are uncomfortable, earbuds doubly so. I usually work at home with classical music on and pray that if it is the radio, the presenter is not too chatty, or if it is Youtube, the adverts do not become obnoxious. Ocean waves can work, but waterfalls/tricking water become annoying and make me want to pee. Bird sounds come free.

I tend to be too tight to subscribe to streaming services, as it usually ends up being expensive for me because I want three items out of column A, one out of column B, two out of column E and a custom package costs you... 'Ow Much!

It is quiet this morning, as I am the only one up, and it is Sunday, so I am just enjoying the birds chirping and the occasional vehicle going past.

We refuse to subscribe to any services beyond iCloud - Oh, and I have an Amazon account so we can download some media 'for free'. It does mean we're left twiddling our thumbs when friends talk about Game of Thrones or whatever the next best thing is.
Last night we re-watched Amelie, the French film from 2001 on DVD! It's a delight with laughter and tears and the lovely Audrey Tatou. No jump-scares, beautifully filmed and acted but you need to be quick to read subtitles. :heart`:

Do we maybe have something in common? 😄

I just realised last night that I do better with the sound of rain than wind. Wind disturbs me just as bad as traffic, rain not as much - I was mainly grateful for it being darker due to heavy clouds, so it was easier to fall asleep.

I use Motorola in ear ones. I sleep with them in, they cancel noise or you can play stuff through them.

I'll agree with the rain preference.

On the boat I like to try to stop every piece of rigging from clanking in the wind, but there's always one that is dependent on direction, that defeats me so I can be found in my jimjams, barefoot at night, staring into the sky to spot the offending rope. That and the boat squeaking against the dock like an old door needing oil. ( *sigh* boat owning problems huh?! ) Another problem can be a visitor not locking off the toilet, so that sea water ends up on the floor - it would be an embarrassing way to sink!

I have an app called Breethe that I somehow purchased a lifetime subscription for $13, I use it for background noise , to relax or sleep. I set it up before sleep, so if I wake at night I just tap my earphones and it plays binaural beats for deep sleep or I listen to around the world in 80s with sleep music and fa back asleep.
I’ve known that book since I was about 5, so I know the words of the first few chapters anyway.

I dont even have a television because I refuse to pay for a license, so I'm limited to (mostly) radio 4 and whatever I can view on my phone. Amazon Prime offers very little to interest me, which means I have to resort to my own devices to fill the time. Do I regret any of my self imposed isolation? Not at all. In fact I believe my psychological health has benefited from the mental and physical exercise. A hermit's life for me ho-ho.

On the topic of noise, I can't remember ever having the luxury of quiet, even though I've lived in supposedly the most peaceful locations possible. The quieter it is the more I hear. Noise cancellers leave me simply listening to the sounds of my own body. There's no escape.

Living by the sea at night is ridiculously loud

@stickygirl Thank you for starting this. I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until I was 40. Having the diagnosis has significantly changed how I interact with the world around me. I am following this as a community of fellow neurodivergents. I appreciate you all and look forward to continuing to learn how to embrace the chaos of a neurodivergent mind.

I have rarely if ever lost a CD, except during a breakup, and typically it was movies not music we quibbled over. One of the few albums I just lost at some point was a CD-length recording of a rain storm. Come to think of it maybe that was my mother's and I borrowed it during summer breaks in college before I stopped going home.

There are now 10 hour tracks on YouTube but those are AI I believe.
