Biker's Run..........................

Good morning, Gang.

It's a fine drizzle morning here too. The lawn definitely needs rain. The herb garden is doing well. Along with the strawberry plants. Still a little to early in the season to put the tomato and pepper plants out. The hanging planters have seed in them to give color to the place.

The rain is supposed to end this afternoon. I need to get out and take a look at the back doors on the van they don't open. I don't usually use them much. I think the rod going to the door hand may have fallen off. I'll simply re attach it. They have to work next week end for the chili cook off. Really don't want to load and unload every thing through the side door.

I hear ya on the lucked out on the chaps NYWings. I've have wanted a pair but with the economy the way it is and being on a fixed income for the time being I have been holding off. Actually, leather does shrink. The oils in the leather dry up and the loss there elasticity. I have two leather bike jackets. One is a very heavy duty brown leather which weighs a frick'n ton. The other is a standard black leather. Each year in the beginning of the season I treat them to leather conditioner. The brown one is about twenty years old. I still looks and feels like new. By the way I didn't know that fact about Citgo. Shit that's a loss of a good fuel price...:(

Hey Dinny what day you leave'n again? I hope for a safe ride for you my friend. One of these days when things get a little better I would love to make the trip to Sturgis at least once in my life time. Perhaps we can talk NYWings in to doing the trip and all go together.

OK, time to get my day rolling. Want to wish everyone a super great Sunday...:D

It's a-comin'...

I hope to get on the road May 4... Course the open house is on the 3rd, so it depends on what time I get my equipment back to the house and into bed. Sturgis... our group is meeting at the Flying J Truck Plaza where I-25 meets I-80 at 8:00 AM July 31st for breakfast before we hit US-85 through Buffalo country, into the backside of Deadwood and on to Sturgis. Six hours from Cheyenne to Sturgis.

I doubt it will be this year for me with the economy the way it is. Unless a miracle occurs...:(

Good morning, gang...:)

It's raining her in the small town of Woodbury, CT. Today is supposed to be a soaker of a day which is OK cause my garden and lawn needs it.

No putt today...:( It's Monday and the chili cook off is Saturday so this is crunch time. Yeah, that trophy is definitely going to look good in are club house...:D

Wanted to wish everyone a super great Monday...;)

Catcha ya all later...:)

Good morning, girls and boys...:)

It's still raining here in Woodbury, CT. Christ it's like the lawn grew 2 inches over night.

I am working today then I am off until off until Monday, May 5th. Taking a few days off to prepare for the chili cook off contest. I am damned in hell to put that trophy in are club house...:D

Want to wish everyone a super great Tuesday...;)

Catcha ya all later...:)

Good evening, gang.

Well, I'm off for the rest of the week. I will be spending the next couple of days doing the final preparation for the chili cook off.

Go some bad news today GutterGoddess called and told me she is not going to be able to make it up for the chili cook off. She was told by her boss she has to work that this Saturday. Looks like I'm doing this alone. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!

Want to wish everyone a super Wednesday.

Weatherman's been bad to me Jade...

Due to a seasonal cold front and rain, I'm having to reroute my trip south through Albuquerque... adding an addition 500+ miles to the trip. Oh, well. Get to take ol' US 66 from Seligman to Kingman... at least that will take some of the sting out of the additional expense. So much for the watch... it goes out the window with a longer trip. Have a great cook off.

Thank you bro! Please have a safe trip...;)

By the way last night we had a frost. Tonight we're expecting to break a weather record of 29 degrees for this time of the year. What the hell happened to the nice weather.

Correction to the outdoor temperature. It's 26 degrees, WTF...

Have a super great day...:)

Jaded - good luck on the cookoff!

Hope the weather improves a bit - but then chili is great on a cool evening!

Have fun.

Safe ride Dinny!

Dinny!

I'm sure I speak for a lot of us here when I say we will be with you in spirit!

Looks like you'll be hitting Rt 66 before me! Keep safe and enjoy the ride!

NYWings

Oh, yeah...

I'll be thinking of all of you all the way in to those beautiful desert sunsets.

Thank you Smily. This will be a challenge. The weather guessers are calling for 58 degrees and a 30% of scattered shower. My Saturday morning will start a 4:30 am. I have to be in Somers, CT by 7:00 am. I'm doing this one alone so it's gonna be a very busy day.

Well, Dinny I will echo NYWings word. I understand rte 66 is a beautiful ride. I know were your head is my friend so you won't be taking in to much of the scenery. God speed.

Thanks, Jade...

I will be trying to focus on the ride rather than why I'm making it, cause if I do it the other way around I hate to think of the consequences. Yesterday was in the thirties all day, got two inches of snow starting around 11 AM and ending at around 5 PM... the weather today isn't supposed to be any better. But the forecast for Sunday is fair all the way down I-25, and Raton Pass NM is supposed to have a high of 78... at 7800+ feet that's the highest pass on the trip so it looks like other than wind and scattered thunderstorms the rest of the trip should be a breeze.

The bloody morning after one tin soldier walked away...

Good morning, girls and boys...:)

I am sitting were with my morning Dunkin Donuts looking out on the back yard. It actually looks like the sun is trying it's damned to burn through the clouds. This is either are third or fourth day of either rain or drizzle. I need 1 sunny day to be able to get the grass cut it has gotten so high.

Yesterday, was the New England Regional Chili Cook Off. It was a cold and showery day. My day started a 4:30 a.m. I needed to be on the road by 5 a.m. so it was shower and 1 cup of coffee been out the door. It rained the entire drive to Somers. I need to get gas and be there by 7 a.m. Thank God for that GPS unit. It brought me right to the door. Once there the first order of business getting the canopy up and unload the van. One of the local Dunkin Donuts was kind enough to provide free coffee, donuts, muffins, bagels, and cream cheese to all the chili chefs. Which was very appreciated. I immediately set up my stoves and positioned my supplies right next to me. The meat locker held marinated tri tip. The large ice chest held my fresh produce and a 12 pack of ice cold Bud...:D Yet in another box was all my dry spices. I restrained for popping the top on when of the ice cold bad boys until the end. We had the chef's meeting at 8:30 a.m. to cover the rules and get the opportunity to meet with the International Chili Society representatives of which I am a card caring member. Then it was back to the booth to crank up the 1st of 2 pots of peoples choice chili. We were given 3 hours to prepare a pot of competition chili. Turn in time was 3 p.m. for the judging. This meant I couldn't start welding my knives like a samurai until noon. The gates opened to the public some where around 11 a.m. and they started swarming not long after. There were like three or four live bands there and all were great. There were also many venders with very creative items for sale. I managed to get away from the booth to pick up 2 tee shirt. There were clowns making balloon animals for the kids. There was a lot of friendly interaction between the chefs. A lot of friendship were made that day. Noon time came and the blinding reflections of my knifes shown. Oh, sorry that right it was overcast and there was no reflection... :( Like a grand master my hands moved. I was able to get my competition pot started between severing my peoples choice chili and watching my competition pot of chili very very closely. Given the weather I was truly surprised at the number of people that showed. Had to be several thousand. By 1 p.m. my 1st pot of peoples choice chili was gone. I had to shut down my people choice station to make the second pot. It was much longer after that my good friends TJ and Sue should up from the Literotica Spring thread showed up unexpectedly to say hi! They joined me in the booth for a couple of hours. Sue and Jen helped by serving the peoples choice chili. I had pre printed some 500 copies of my peoples choice chili recipes as hand outs. I maybe have 200 copies left. People were really surprised that I was willing to hand out copies of the recipe. My peoples choice chili was a big hit. I made the 3 p.m. turn in. One of the vendors there that was sell marinating product was kind enough to prepare smoke beef ribs and coleslaw for the chefs competing. God them ribs were great. Now there were 80+ chefs registered to compete. Out of the 80 only 53 actually showed probably because of the price of gas and the weather. Of the 53 there were 32 that were seasoned vets. Some with 20+ years of competing. Furthest away was Texas. But, then what do Texans know about cooking chili? There were 21 first timers like myself. I made the turn in time. It took about 3 hours to judge all the entries. Biker's Run finish in 11 position. I wasn't away that the judges wanted to see a traditional chili recipe. I had cinnamon in my recipe making it different. Thinking that they wanted a new taste. I used cinnamon in the peoples choice and the people loved it. I was also concerned about cooking it down into a paste. Mine enter was a light gravy consistence. The judges wanted a very heavy gravy or paste consistence. Both of these errors on my part are easily correctable. But, this was my first contest. I finally made it home by a little after 8 p.m. I kept the remainder of my competition chili for myself and put that in the refrig...:D I brought in the rest of the perishables. I took a hot shower to warm up and made a cup of hot coffee. I sat down to just relax after a long day. I had Fox network (channel 61 around here) film me wowing and smoozing the crowd. It would have been on the late news. I tried my damnedest to stay up to see my moment of glory and feel sound a sleep before it came on...:( Well, that was my day and I'm still exhuasted...:D So, what you do yesterday...

I just wanted to wish everyone a super great day...:D

Not sure what it is but there is a bright yellow ball in the sky! After all the overcast and rainy days it's refreshing to see the sun...:D

I will make the most of it and see if I can finish up cleaning up my gear from the chili contest and get out for a putt this afternoon...;)

Good morning, girls and boys...:)

Not sure were everyone else is...

It's gonna be a beautiful day with the high near 80 degrees. Today feels like a great day for a ride...:D

Want to wish everyone a super day...:)

I made it...but it was like takin'...

my life into my own hands. I crossed the border into CA at Needles and gas went from 3.89 to 4.69 a gallon. The wind shear coming off the Tehachapi Mountains just about blew me across two lanes... but no traffic till I crossed over into the Central Valley. CA 99 at was bumper to bumper at 90 MPH from Bakersfield to Sacramento...just short of three hundred miles.

I talked to the business people along the way and they were unanamous in the opinion that the high energy prices are killing their businesses. I saw a lot of unresponsive bikers along the road who wouldn't even take the time to acknowledge with a wave... but that's to be expected as former muscle car collecting gas guzzler drivers are forced by the economics of energy to 'lower' themselves into becoming 'bikers'...of course, that also forces those of us that have been riding for years to have to look out for their inexperienced asses on the road making the same mistakes they do driving cages.. Many of these folks don't have the benefit of having sat on anything with two wheels under their butts since they took the training wheels off their bicycles. You can see them in their bikes and matching color coordinated cordura threads and matching helmets. I wish them the best of luck out there.

As for me, I'm alive and doin' fine.

Good morning, everyone...:)

Good to see you made the trip safe bro...:) If nothing else you got to pass through some beautiful country. Hope all goes well with your Dad my friend...;)

It's a rainy morning here in Connecticut. I did get to get out for a while yesterday afternoon. Stayed local and just put everything out of my head. It was a me day. We all need them. The weather guesser's are predict rain off and on over the next couple of days so yesterday afternoon will hold me for a couple of days...:D

Well, I need to get ready for work. Want to wish everyone a super great day...:)

Thanks Jade

We're currently looking for an assisted living facility for him... he requires a lot more supervision than my brother can provide and keep his job. Hoping Kaiser will cooperate, they should he paid for the assisted living care insurance, but you know what you pay for isn't often what you get with insurance even working for Lockheed Martin... the statisticians at the insurances companies want the odds in their favor before they approve anything... like you're going to die the minute you walk in the door. We'll see.

I hear ya bro. It is difficult to put a loved one into an assisted living facility. It makes you feel like you've given up on them. But, in many instance it is the only way they can get that special attention they need. I moved my parents into my house and at the same time I was raising two kids by myself. Can it be done, yes! I did it for 8 years and I was a walking zombie for 8 years. Not good...:(

My only recommendation is to research the living Facility carefully. All are super expensive. However, some are just money pits with the care questionable. They are getting very popular around here.

Stay safe bro...:)

Good morning, everyone...:)

It was a soggy day here in the small town of Woodbury, CT. We're supposed to dry out tomorrow.

Want to wish one and a super great weekend...:)

Mmm-Mmm good!

Feel like a million bucks today... yesterday, my son, who hadn't seen his grandfather in nearly fifteen years drove from LA to Sacramento with his wife and spent the whole afternoon with us. Man... that was a great birthday gift for both my dad and I. My father didn't fall asleep the whole time they were here and slept all night for the first time since I got here. That was worth the sore butt and the bad weather I'm facing going back to see. Put a whole new light on my day. Temps in the 80-90s in the Sierra Foothills, but its suppose to be in the 60s-70s going back through central Nevada on US 50 starting Tues... snowing in Boulder and it's supposed to continue like that throughout the week. Damn... I didn't bring my chains with me.
