Back to Colorado in the AM

Leaving early and heading East into the sunrise through the Sierra Nevada in the morning. Hope to be in Fallon NV between 12 and 2. I've already done my good samaritan thing and bought Route 66 pins for all the fairweather weekend Harley riders back home... got to get them their 'loneliest highway' pins next. Traffic will be a bitch in Carson City, but once you get past Fallon it's just you and hundreds of miles of wide open highway. Going to head south through the north end of Canyonlands and Capitol Reef National Parks, Utah, then head north through the west end of Dinosaur National Park and Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. More mesas, mountains, forests and deserts. Total mileage: make it 3300 miles.

Good morning, girls and boys...

Yesterday was a cold overcast day with high gusts of wind. Sunday, I was able to get out for a nice ride. The nights have been chilly around here. We have been dropping into the 30's / 40's. I have been bring my vegetable plants in at night.

I have to look around for a new part time job. With the kids getting out of school for the summer soon they have hired a bunch of them and cut back my hours to 12 hours a week. I need more hours than that. I don't want to touch my savings if I don't have to. With fuel prices and the price of food climbing that's getting difficult to do...

OK, well I need to get ready for work. Want to wish everyone a super great day...

Good morning, girls and boys...

It has been a very busy week for me this week. I have been in sorta a bummed out mood. Talking with a neighbor and long time friend. Are kids played together. I found out that he has prostate cancer. He is half way through treatment. He is my same age.

He told me that another friend of are died last week. Shit this guy was as health as a horse and a year younger than me... John was a super great guy and will be missed.

Dinny, hope you made it home safely my friend. I don't need anymore bad news...

Who is eligible…? Pretty much any one… I have found that giving these cook outs themes makes them more interesting. So this cook out the theme will be “Road House BBQ”. The date for are first cook out is Saturday, May 24th. Those planning to attend please PM me. I love to be challenged cooking wise so if you want to throw done the gauntlet I’m ready… I will post and additions the below menu. . If I can find decent fresh strawberries reasonable priced fresh strawberry cream pie.

Kaiser rolls (for the pulled pork sandwiches), sliced onions, creamy un salted butter, my own refrigerated garlic dill pickles, salt, pepper, plastic eating utensils, paper plates, napkins, and plastic glasses.

A hearty appetite (no one has ever left my table hungry), love, and laughter.

Back in Boulder

Bike and I are in one piece... no thanks to AAA. Third day out from Sacto, got a call from the Mrs., she'd herniated a couple of discs in her back and I had to get home pronto and take her to the doctor. Covered seven hundred miles of back roads through Utah, Wyoming and Colorado to do it... but made it doing in excess of the speed limit when practical. No trips now till Sturgis.

How was the BBQ, Jade... it rained here memorial day.

Kinda killed anyone's outdoor plans and any rides. The Mrs. and I just sat around... her recovering from the herniated discs, and me handling correspondence on an identity theft issue in Washington state... seems that I magically contracted for cable service with Comcast in Lakewood, WA. back in December while the snow here was about four feet deep. I won't do business with Comcast on principal anyhow... they move into community, force out the local cable company and ninety days later they've uped your bill 100 percent. So they've sent my Washington alter ego to collections to recover their cable boxes and service fees. They couldn't explain how they'd authorized service for a Washington location with a Colorado billing address. This ought to be really interesting.

Dinny, glad to see the wife is feeling a bit better. Although it was Comcast, I had a collection agency pursing me for a un collected bill. I have a fairly common real name. Someone live in the next time over Southbury ran up a bill and left. They found me living in Woodbury and came after me. I have NEVER lived in Southbury. I was living at my current address when I was supposedly living in Southbury. Was a real mess...

Well, if this weekend is decent I will get to look at my clutch cable.

I here ya bro. I need to get over to the storage unit and take a look at the clutch cable. It is hanging up a bit when I release it. First order of business is to find another part time job to help with the bills. Were I work they cut my hours from 28 hrs a week to 12 hrs a week. I don't like having to keep dipping into the savings. With the price of fuel and food going up on a daily bases its getting a little difficult to live. On the news yesterday they anounced that with fuel and food prices Connecticut is the most expensive state to live in right now.

I have been since winter 2006. 2003 Pearl Blue Honda Rebel 250.
I ride for my daily commute to school and around the area.

There are some nice scenic routes here in Calif (especially in SoCal), Jaded1, if you are here ever.

First order of business is let me welcome you to Biker's Run. While your here have fun and enjoy yourself. When your here your always among friends. We are like family. A bit dysfunctional but family just the same. Here it's not about what you ride but the friendships and getting to ride. I may have started this thread but everyone that posts to it owns it.

I have military buddies from S. Cal and they tell me the same that there is some beautiful ride'n there.

SoCal Ridin'...

One thing I noticed on this ride was that not much had changed between Needles and Bakersfield since I was a kid living outside Mojave in the '60s... Tehachapi is bigger, Barstow is a little more spread out, but between the two towns you can still mostly see the deserts trails and roads going off to nowhere for scores of miles. It was a great place to grow up bikin'. Another thing that hasn't changed was the wind... it can be brutal, and usually is.

Speaking of wind, coming back across NV-UT, I was on the longest point to point leg of the trip, Ely NV to Delta UT, about 114 miles... 50 miles outside Delta a gust came up and nearly knocked me across the road, took my helmet and ripped the sun visor AND the anchors right off. I didn't know what had happened till I got into Delta and was going into the Yamaha Dealer to pick up a new visor and discovered the anchors were gone... had to buy a new helmet. Like I said, wind can be brutal.

It's an overcast day here in the small town of Woodbury, CT. It has been drizzling off and on all morning long. I want to take a look at the clutch cable but I would next to take the bike out of my storage unit. Tomorrow is supposed to be nicer. I am going to hold off until tomorrow.

Not having much luck so far finding anyone hiring at this time. The economy has really slowed down in this area. With the price of fuel now days long distances commuting whether bike of van is still gonna be expensive. Since they cut my hours dramatically things are a little tight. I refuse to keep dipping into my savings. Can't wait for this flaming fucking idiot George Bush to get out of office.

I want to sincerely thank-you, Jaded1, my friend, for the invite to join Lit., and also to this particular thread!! I know I will like it here and feel right at home!!

I share with you ALL the LUV of motorcycles. No, the PASSION of it. Well actually, in truth, the OBSESSION, of it!!

The beckoning of the open road. The sense of adventure on each trip. The freedom. The exhiliration. Need I say more.....

I, myself, am an avid/rabid(?) HARLEY nut. My passion is Heritage Softails (mostly Deluxes), but also Fatboys and Road Kings.

I am simply taken/smitten. No, enthralled, with the clean, sleek lines of a Harley. Her smooth, silky skin (top, clear coat)I gently touch, or wash and buff. Her powerful, throaty, deep rumble makes me shiver to the core, each time the key turns in the ignition. Just like how I feel when I also hear " Gentlemen!! Start your engines!!" (car racing is another passion of mine...) But that's another story....

You know that familiar feeling....the INTENSE rush, the adrenaline. All your senses tuned in. Breathless. An orgasmistic feeling really....

Don't get me wrong. I LIKE and APPRECIATE all makes of bikes. Be it a Wing, Yammy, Beemer, Suzuki or whatever. What we ALL share is the LUV of riding, irregardless of make and model.

We share that bond of pioneerism of the blacktop. And we all yearn for it when we are at work, mentally "hearing" that Siren's call.....knowing its seductive hold on us. Wanting it. Yearning for it. THE RIDE.

I have been severely bitten by the "bike bug" for years now, but am still a lowly passenger (but not a backrest, right Jaded?!?)The Road King still sits in secure and heated storage (due to personal reasons)"sleeping" and "waiting."

And even though I took the written test a few years back, I have yet to take the safety course. Then after, I'll take the road test.

As the H-D slogan goes " LIVE TO RIDE AND RIDE TO LIVE "

It pertains to each and every one of us, no matter what we ride!!

Jaded: Hope you get her clutch cable repaired Sunday, so that you can hit the open road to clear out your head of your employment and personal woes. If only just for a few hours. You NEED to. WANT to.

In conclusion, thanks Jaded for bringing me into this family of kindred souls. Sure we may be a rag-tag bunch, but we all are a wonderful bunch!!

Jaded, Thanks for the kind words, Mom is comfortable and enjoying here new home. This is a special time for us to relive memories and enjoy the days ahead.

Dinny, You had one heck of a ride my friend. Glad your home safe and I hope everything goes okay with your wife. Keep positive even though times can be tough.

Thats a nice bike you have there! Lot bettter than my first one (CB175 Honda)
I'm not knocking it though... That was one very tough Honda that I put a lot of miles on and learned the ropes with. Forgiving and easy to handle so I got out of a lot of situations that a big heavy bike would not. I went to a 67 Triumph after the Honda and stayed with Triumphs till I was bit by the Harley bug.
Have fun with your fantasies but don't daydream too much... Those "tanks" are always looking to get you out there.
I soloed in a Cessna 150, 152, 172 & a Piper Cherokee and I can relate to the feeling of flying when your on two wheels. Trouble is you don't have to watch out for cars and trucks while cruising 3500 feet above it all.
One very big rule I live by on the road... YOU NEVER HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY ON A BIKE... Even if that light is green... Someone wants to right on red in front of you. The blue haired old lady who is waiting to pull out will wait just long enough for you to get within 20 feet of her when she DOES pull out... The person walking their dog will have just enough leash out so he can get your leg and lastly... on the highway the car or truck is bigger and they will take that space your trying to move over into... So... Be careful out there !
That being said... Enjoy the ride ! I hope to make it to So Cal someday...

That Roadking is a lot of bike to start with... If your gonna start with a Harley try a Sportster Hugger as a first bike. Do take a safety class to get your license. They can teach you a lot. You should always ride with a friend till you gain enough confidence and experience. Good luck!

Christ what a beautiful day outside. I would really like to go take a look at the bike clutch cable but I don't think I am going to get free time to do so today.

Something seems to always pop up unexpectedly. Main priority is finding another job first. It's getting difficult handle every day experiences with my hours being cut.

NYWings, enjoy your time with your Mom. For these are the days you will treasure most in your memories of her.

Sorry I didn't get to meet you at Jaded's B.B.Q.-maybe next time you'll be able to attend his fabulous and decadent events.....

I hear you about starting off with a smaller cc bike. I will not be using the FLHR. I know the Sportster is smaller but the center of gravity is waay to high for me. I am tall-about 5'8" but I am probably going with a Yammy or Honda the first time around.

After, of course, taking the safety course.....I have asked and checked around and still find the center of gravity a lot lower and more balanced in a FLST. So down the road, if I do, I still gotta get a classic or Deluxe!! So a year or so of a lower cc for certain, first!!

Thanks for your wise advice!! Nice to see you have a Springer!!!! A classic bike for sure!! Hope you had a great ride.

Hi All, It's been awhile. I hope all here are well. It's nice to see some new posters here especially since they're female harley lovers I just ordered some new straight shots for my softail but it will be a month before I can get the fuel injection remapped. Anyone else here headed to the Harley Rendezvous in NY in a few weeks? Anyhow....ride safe!!!!!!!!
