Crushes On Lit Users

I think "crush" is such a dangerous word to use in here because it evokes raw unprotected emotion. We're here in an environment without the benefit of body language, nuance in language, voice inflection, tone of voice, etc. These things are essential in reading, communicating with, and relating to someone with whom you have a "crush."

We'll do what we do, and have our hearts broken, and go on day by day, I don't expect anyone to change how they go about it. But I think the key to enjoying the Lit experience is to look to have fun. Anything else is a crapshoot.

It is very dangerous here...for most, this is an escape from RL. Knowing someone on this board does not mean you know them in RL, and you can be easily fooled into believing that you have emotion for someone you don't really know at all.

Besides, Lit gives us the opportunity to "meet" people we'd never have contact with otherwise - people really far away from each other all pulled together here. And there lies the crush....strong feelings for someone you KNOW is essentially unattainable.

I have a few little crushes on the board time to time, and a few ongoing ones...but I am not one to let my emotions push past that. It's not realistic and it's a great way to get hurt.

This needed to be said. The more you know about people on this site, the more you don't know about them in real life.

Pounce, tackle, Sorry, did I crush you??:D[/]

Please don't stop, I wanna crush thee endlessly

Totally agree with this!

Even more dangerous is when your crush has free time on his hands and has a habit of, oh say, wandering the continent on a motorcycle :D

Sometimes actually meeting in meat space amps things up to another level, frighteningly fast, because even before you meet a person you already know more about them than their past partners. Or their Lit persona is more of a fantasy, and everything just blows up in your face, and you were better off leaving a fantasy on Lit.

Personally I never understood why people pretend to be things they are not online, Walter Mitty will never end up being happy!
But for those that are seemingly paralyzed in their situations, I guess Lit makes an addictive outlet. And those can be dangerous crushes.

Very, very dangerous.

Very, very dangerous.

Wait......so you're really a man that makes his living as a clown and hates cats?
Sob......that's the sound of my heart being crumpled & thrown into the gutter...

^^^I so agree, I say this all of the time.
I am the same on and offline, that being said I'm not running around fucking everybody. LOL!
I know there is a time and place for everything, I don't do well with fake.

What you read and see is what you get, I'm not changing just because some people don't like it.
I'm grateful for my Litster friends that get me without judging.

*Fist Bump*

One of these days we need to do shots together and bitch about the fakes & tire kickers.

And amazingly enough, even the women that know me laugh when I say I'm picky! I'll leg hump anybody in the bathroom...but I save the nipple clamp PM's for only those I really like :D

You must not like me then, because I haven't received a nipple clamp PM. :D

*smirks* I thought you prefered humping anything with legs? Ya know, tables, chairs, ta les, etc.

I am pretty much reading this thread, agreeing, laughing, appreciating the brilliant sexy, funny and oh so real thoughts being shared here

My crush list is getting longer

Kisses everyone :rose::kiss::rose:

LMAO...no clowns for me!
Quit asking about the nipple clamps!!! I gave you one already!

I agree, crush is a pretty strong word to use for someone that you've probably never met and most likely won't meet.

I've met some women that I really enjoy chatting with and have a bit of fun with, but fortunately I can keep the emotions and drama of a crush separate from the conversations and fun.

I think... crush is an ambiguous word. People develop crushes all the time. You watch TV, you see this celebrity you develop a crush on. And it's not very complicated. You probably just like the way they look, and it hasn't developed far enough to be called lust. You're only interested. You're just slightly 'crushing.' But there are other types of crushes too, with their own respective levels of danger. The whole thing gets tricky if/when you get emotionally invested. And Lit is a dangerous haven for that, because you can never, ever be totally sure of who's on the other end of your screen.

There's obviously some common sense you can use to temper your 'crush.' You could go ahead and just PM him/her and say 'hey, I'm really interested in you, are you interested in me too?' But I think that's opening yourself up for hurt. If you go about it in a manner similar to the real-world fashion, letting things happen as they may for a while, bumping into him/her on the boards, seeing how well you mesh, then you've got a better chance of discovering whether or not you really like the person as a person, not just because they've got a gorgeous Av pic or because they know how to string words together to make a hot sentence. You can get a feel for them as a person, and decide whether or not you want to make that next step. Because an un-returned crush is always horrible.

So, little flirtatious crushes are probably just fine. We likely all have them. But anything more? Be an angel... fear to tread. Be a fool and you'll get a fool's reward. I think it's only a matter of trusting yourself, not trusting the person on the other end of the line.

I've got all of those, except maybe the last two. Can't think of any guys or couples I'm crushing on...

And I can't tell which of those crushes are more of a thorn in my side. If I sent a PM to everyone I was crushing on, it would probably be a very bad thing for my mental health. But that's the cool thing about Lit, at any rate. There are just so many people here that you have the luxury of appreciating them in so many different ways. There are so many people here to pique your interest, that you want to get to know on different levels.

I think sending a note like we did in the old days is appropriate.
