~Deacon's Fucked up Cancer Thread~

I looked at my surgery as simple hose repair...like when we kids with a blown radiator hose. It kept me positive. Harder on the wife and kids than me. Fuck Cancer!

Yeah, my wife is struggling a bit as well. She's a trooper though, that's for sure :)

I just love and admire your attitude about all this Deacon...you know you're in my thoughts :kiss:

So as many of you know, I went in for a colonoscopy due to some bleeding issues. They found four polyps, three were removed right then, but the fourth was a five centimeter mass that turned out to be cancer.

It's stage three, and before they will remove it, I'll be having radiation and chemo therapies at the same time, starting next week. It's five days a week for twenty-five visits, so five weeks. After that I get a recovery break, and then if things have gone well, what's left of it will be removed.

Most people don't go through this, but I always have to do it over the top, lol. This tumor is right where the rectum and the colon meet, so they need to save as much of the rectum as possible.

I'd guess this is an uncomfortable topic or subject for some, so I understand if you'd rather ignore me/it :) I will be sharing everything I deal with along the way, in the hopes that maybe just one of you that has put off a colonoscopy, goes and gets it done.

And just so everyone knows, this is not a pity party for me. I don't need any of that, because I'm not at risk of dying or anything like that, it will just be uncomfortable for a while. I do love and appreciate all the PMs with prayers and encouragement, and willingly accept more, because it's nice to know people care.

I will answer any and all questions about what I'm going through, and what I've learned, either here, or in a PM. I don't mind.

If you have any questions about your therapy that you can't get answered or just don't know how to ask, please reach out to me!

Here's to BIG prayers and a healthy body! You're going to do great! I believe it. :)

and you have to drink a gallon of the anti freeze stuff first, downing that's worse than the op.

Last time I did it, it was much better. A 5 oz shot of Rx liquid with a quart of water. Two times. That was it!

I sure am sorry, Deacon. I did the Cancer diagnosis, surgery and radiation bit 5 years ago. My advice...give great thought and consideration about the radiation. I wish I had. IT will have life long implications that may out weigh it's benefits. I had a full body scan and was deemed clear but they wanted to do radiation to just make sure........I am still dealing with the ramifications.

I told my surgeon that I felt what they were doing to me was brutal and in 20 years we would consider current Cancer treatments barbaric. He was a great guy....he agreed with me and told me he was sorry.

Stay Strong.

the treatment can, indeed, be brutal.. and it's a very brave thing to allow yourself to go through it.
My sincerest wish for you, Deacon, is that you are able to find days where you don't feel like a victim of your own life..
days of peace.. and of normalcy.. and where you are so distracted by simple pleasures that everything else slips away for a moment.

Deacon, I don't think I've ever chatted with you but I wish you a good recovery. Stay strong, it's a hard time.

I am scheduled for a scope soon. I may cancel it for a bunch of reasons. If nobody can drive me to it, then I would be riding a bus and maybe a cab if I can't walk to a bus stop. I am skeptical of reliance on expensive electronic devices for basic medicine. I am trying to keep a healthier diet with herbal supplements. If I die of something in my butt, then fuck it, I had a good life.

My healthcare plan may provide a ride.

Yeah, I tried that, but then you get scared, because well, dying sucks.:D:cool:

So sorry to read that you have to go through this. I love your positive attitude about the whole thing, though. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way :rose:

I can’t think of a bunch of reasons good enough, the sooner you get it sorted the better, honestly.
