House Porn: Homes that make me wet

There's also geothermal 🤓
I was part of a custom build project of an A-frame style cabin. Our energy code is incredibly strict. However, triple paned windows, geothermal HVAC, as well as well as setting the hose to face slightly southwest was enough to get us to pass code. It can be done, I swear!
I would never have guessed geothermal would work for glass walls. Good to know!!

This is when I realize how easily I fall down rabbit holes. I became fascinated with geothermal climate control within homes after seeing it utilized in a friend's house in Australia. They had the air come in through the laundry so they could hang their clothes inside and the temperature was always regulated, regardless of the season. I loved it.

I've been an energy nerd ever since.

That's fantastic. I looked into here, but it seems to be much easier to implement with a new build rather than trying to modify. I'm not sure I'll be here long enough to make the cost practical.

Love the laundry idea.

My long term home goal is to have as self sufficient an energy loop as possible.

Did our nipples just connect? 🥰

This has been on my mind lately. I'd love to do something like this, except a mix of vegetable and flowers. The problem is, our long summers and high heat already equals numerous creepy crawlies. Packing that much foliage and sundry tight up against the house would only amplify the issue.

There must be a way to do something lovely and unusual and practical (vegetables) in this environment. 🤔

Unpopular opinion; diatomaceous earth and wasp powder.

They eventually stop coming inside.

Even with that much plant life up against the house?

(I should say my gardening and associated pest knowledge is extremely limited.)

Why is that an unpopular opinion?

It kills them 😈
I don't spray them in the yard, but I draw defenses around the house.
Frankly, in the house, that is a popular opinion. 😂

I am no kill as far as possible, but when it comes to scorpions and wasps and snakes in the house? Nope/

I see many brick Cape Cod houses here. I like them, but I don't see much future for them, like any suburban type of house. Just a rowhouse suite or room would be enough for me when I leave the suburbs. I expect rowhouses will eventually become half of the urban housing, the other half being 4-over-1 mixed use.
