Long Distance Relationships

Ya know.

I get the feeling someone enjoyed his stay in the big city. :D

Hello there. I was worried that Jenny had wore you out. :p

my two cents

i think its common these days to be involved or know someone involved in a LDR. the internet has brougth the world into one big room. thing to remember is that we are NOT all in the same room. a couple things to ponder from the voice of experience. will this lead to more or is it strictly to remain an online affair? if it does evolve into more who will move? while you may in fact be in love sme people spend there entire life building career and one of yu will have to make a sacrifice should it get to that point. havce you visited enough to know what it is really going to be like once you are there? not only between you and your mate but with you and the "new" town or city. a couple of suggestions.........................take it slow, be careful but willing to explore all possibilities. get lots and lots of pics, just to know your going to meet who you think you are going to meet. if they can get one they can get more. spend time on the phone, and be alert to things said and noises heard. ie little kids in the background when they hav said they have never been married and dont have kids. angry wives or husband in the background when they have told you they have been divorced or 5 years. watch for consistency in what they say.

in the end it is just as possible for a LDR to work as it is with the "girl/guy next door"

best of luck to anyone who is involved or becomes involved in a LDR wish you all the best because everyone deserves happines and its not our fault that God decided to put our soulmate 1044 miles away.

ME wear HIM out??? (He's the insatiable one!) :p

Wish he liked the big City living more! I'll hopefully get to see his part of the country before too long.

Good words of advice, Stunner. We are trying to take things slowly, although it seems to be going "too slowly" sometimes. In our case we have over 1200 miles between us. Thank goodness we get in touch 6 days out of 7 most weeks, and the time we spend together is priceless.

Honesty is crucial, and fortunately there are no "hidden" spouses or children around!

And Oman?......

Keep taking BIG breaths! Posting here at LIT seems productive, don't you think so? You must already have your place spotless, so maybe a good book?

Enjoy the excitement!! Again, I'm so happy for you two.

Hang in there!!:rose:

Thanks Jenny

I wish the place was spotless we are having water heater problems till tomorrow night so have to wait to do laundry.

Didn't get much done at all today but homework so there is always tomorrow!:)

You'll soon be a day closer, Hat! (I love countdowns!):D

Since I was a little girl, my family would count "sleeps" before a big event! Helped me get to bed at a decent time too!;)

My first post

Hello everyone. This shall be my first post here, though I have been reading for quite some time.

I especially wanted to write on this topic....as I myself have been in a LDR for almost a year now. This is a first for me...and it has been a learning experience. What I have read on here holds true for my relationship as well.....communication and honesty become even MORE important when proximity is not possible. Also, trying a wide variety of contact is very good...email, Instant messaging, phone, letters, packages, pictures....whatever you can do to make that special person *feel* your presence.

I made my first trip to see my SO this past Christmas...and I was actually amazed that things turned out well...I had expected to run screaming from the airport in either fear or heartbreak. Instead, things went incredibly well...and it has served to bring us closer together....more focused on what we truly want this relationship to be.

All I can really say is good luck to everyone going through even something remotely similar...it's not easy. My love comes to visit my hometown for the first time in less than a month...and I need to get back to cleaning house. Take care all, see you around the boards (now that I can post! wahoo!)

Dang!

Tried the website, Oman. Although a lot of interesting info is available, the site itself has been deactivated. But I did find a few interesting items, and will check it out further later this week.

Thanks babe! (I think we should start our own book, don't you?);)

Welcome, Smiley, and thanks so much for using this thread for your first post!

It sounds like you're doing well with your LDR! I especially like the variety of ideas you listed in ways of keeping contact! (I've been using the LIT board in general to bring a smile to Oman's face!) It's been exciting and frustrating at times, but the efforts we put into keeping our situations "alive" seem well worth it. Right now for me the future is my biggest uncertainty; but it's great to realize that you are really part of a "couple" and that you don't need to face the unknown alone.

Hope this thread continues to give you support, and I look forward to hearing about the next phase of your journey! All the best!:rose:
