She had mentioned that she smell and fumes made her nauseous, and I know what she means.

The heat gun is smelly, but it's hot paint, not all the stripping chemicals. They have lower temperature heat guns which can be used on lead-based paint, too. They cost about $50-60, I think, and last pretty well.

Well at that time I didnt know about anything else but Zip strip...I stripped all the old furniture that way too....took me 14 hrs just to do the dining room big windows...but it went down to the old milk paint...very tedious work.....but then I was much younger than!!!!

Before I begin.........WildRose, nice ass!!!

Now that that's said and done, my real purpose for posting here. I'm sure you know who Norm Abram is. Well, I was a very good family friend. Would you believe that their house is a brand new, contemporary? Wouldn't you think it would be an old house that he fixed up?

And then there is still the old propane torch method. It's still slow, and the fumes from the paint can be hazardous if concentrated.

Maybe that's why I am like I am - no, I've always been like this.

Cool!

No, actually, I'm not surprised. If one does it all day for other people, one wants a break from it when one returns home. The old saying is that the cobbler's kids have no shoes.

He might like contemporary architecture better as a matter of personal taste. I'd be curious to know.

It's a beautiful home. Very unique. The ceiling in the kitchen/family room is all beams (there's a story behind the beams, but i can't remember it right now. i'll get back to u on it)
The house isn't as big as I would have thought, but like I said, very unique. OMG the master bath was something! The faucets were like fountains. They paid over $200 on a friggin toilet. Talk about flushing money down the drain! I'll add little snippits as they come to mind, if you'd like.

Alright I admit this is off the track a bit...but did you hear about the new smart homes in Japan...when you go to the toilet if something is not right it sends an email to your Dr...I swear I didnt make this up...heard it this morning on the news!!!

You know, even though the idea was as an "old house" thread, we're talking about Norm Abram - so what the heck??? Please pass it along as it comes back to you.

I've seen people blow some serious money on plumbing fixtures - and some because it was trendy at the time they built/renovated, whatever it might be.

Bidets were big in the eighties, along with pickled oak cabinets, which were replaced by the return of white cabinets - and the list goes on.

I worked for a custom contemporary builder in the late 80's - my last real job in new construction. We got the chance to build a lot of interesting houses while I was there. The fun part was trying to figure out how to build what the architect drew sometimes. We were never bored there.

Wow - that sounds really invasive to me - but I'm a privacy freak.

Bill Gates has every electronic gadget available at his house. I've seen the systems where you can program your house to do things while you're gone.

Wall timers are good enough for me - the other is too much outlay for things which might cause problems later.
