I really need to drop the coinage and buy a scanner for my buddy Matt, who can make it all work, and would do it for me, so I wouldn't have to.

But it seems that revenues have been down of late, and the Royal Treasury is depleted.

Maybe I'll just print some myself.

How about a digital camera...?
You take the picture, download to your computer, and then voila`! attach to any email or ..what ever....

I might even be able to operate on of those on my own, assuming I read the directions.

When the Treasury refills.

First draw date is late October, and it will be appreciated, too. A tad close until then. I've survived worse, and I am resourceful, too.

Well, I was able to figure out my digital...easier than trying to work my scanner...(haven't figured it out...and probably won't either)
there are always squirrels to eat....

Canned vegetables don't cost much. Green beans are tasty with Italian salad dressing.

There is a possum living somewhere out back, and I have a live trap.

I like the kitties who live in the alley in the next block. Some do-gooder woman comes and feeds them regularly, too.

Squirrels are hard to catch, and there isn't much flesh there when you do.

Too many people I know would feed me long before it ever got to those desperate levels of poverty.

I have friends today - and I AM a friend today.

I am a realist, howevr, and, sometimes, I don't candy coat it very well. But I am an optimist, too. Things usually work out just fine, if not the way I want them to.

With no luck at all, my photo lady got the "before" pictures taken today!!!!

Hope to get the results in a few days.

Last time, she gave them to me in an album for my birthday. Fortunately, it's not far off.

Just because I have been thinking of you
Dear,
if things should begin o look lean here is an old family recipe:

Casserole of Possum
1 possum, 1 3/4 to 2 pounds, dressed weight
5 cups cold water
2 pods dry red pepper, 1 1/4 inch long
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon flour
1 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes, cut in half
and Parsley

warm your oven to 375 degress Farenheit
Clean possum carefully, removing scent glands and any clinging hair. Wash thoroughly. Place in a 3-qt saucepan, add water and salt, and 1 pod of the peppers. Heat to boiling , reduce heat, cover and boild gently until tender but not tender enough to separate from the bones, about 1 1/2 hours. Drain off broth: save one cup; discard the rest. Put possum into a casserole, sprikle with flour and the other pod of pepper crushed medium fine over the meat. Put one of the pared washed sweet potatoes inside the possum and arrange the rest around it. Pour the 1 cup of broth around the possum. Bake covered until potatoes and meat are very tender; then remove cover and back to an appetizoing brown, or about 1 hour. Serve piping hot with a garnish of parsley. 3 to 4 servings.

Note: Hubbard aquash or cushaw baked with the possum are equally as good as the potatoes.
Batch

Wonderful. Will it work just as well with a brace of weasels? I'll bet it will.

I really need to paste this in "Momma's Kitchen". Wildrose will get a big kick out of it.

This recipe assumes that I can catch the little bastard first. The city frowns on gunfire - not that there isn't plenty of it, tho'.

You'll have to get a .22 and go Prairie dog hunting, Dear....bet that can be done in your neck of the woods, too.

I love this....I've never had a possum recipe before!!!!

This gives me some incentive to catch that little bastard who lives in the back yard, too.

I'd have to be pretty hard up to be trying to catch that possum for supper. I think people in some areas probaly do eat them. I've never known any, however.

Possum

Possum is considered a delicacy in some parts... very rural areas, or in pockets of extreme poverty, such as the Appalachian Mts. (sp?)

How's the project coming mbb?

Hi Ladies!

I spent a year at U of Miami, Coral Gables FL, and made many trips down to a restaurant on Islamorada... great frog legs there...

My father had dinner once with business associates in China, in the company of some Buddist monks. One of the things on the menu were goat eyeballs. It is an insult to not try food offered to you in some cultures... needless to say, he had to eat one.
~laughing~

But he said it wasn't half as bad as the huge beetles he ate in Germany during WWII, when the company ran out of rations. Pan fried, no coating... CRUNCHY!

A long day

My butt is whipped. I'm making me work too hard. I'd go into gory detail, but I just dragged in the door and don't feel like it. It will be an early night tonight.

More on the morrow.

Rest well and dream of only good things
And you really ought to get more rest....

and not make you work yourself too hard.....

I've heard that "dream" sequence before somewhere - now, where was it?

I probably should get more rest, but think of all the things I would miss while I was sleeping.

Actually, it's all Chris's fault - he's mean to me if I don't work hard. Damned bossy help you get these days!!!!

We started this thread about eating sawdust and old paint chips, and, somehow, we got into possums and weasels. I would ask, "What went wrong?", but it's okay with me!!!!

Dad was in WWII???? He has my complete appreciation. Please pass on to him that your friends at the porn site say, "Thank you!"

Yep, his boat was one of the first "over there"... landed at Cherbourg, France... he was in the Timberwolf Div., an engineering batallion... built bridges and such in advance of the troops arrival. His experience was not a good one, he is one of those that prefers to not talk about it at all... a quiet man by nature.

Porn site! LMFAO... I thought we all came here to read and write!

Thanks, WWII vets!!!!

And we all thought PTSD came from 'Nam. What a load of crap that is!!!!

Hey Darling, engineers are knee deep in the shit!!!! As you said, they get there next to first, and the enemy is still awfully fierce. He doesn't tell you those things because he doesn't want to have to remember them himself, and he isn't proud of some of what he had to do to live long enough to be your dad. You probably know that, tho'.

My WWII friend died last week - the memorial service was yesterday. He was the guy on Iwo. Thanks, Ed.

Read "Flag of my Fathers" for a very sensitive story from a son about his father's WWII time on Iwo - Dad was one of the guys in the famous picture. Well worth the read - not great, but a great perspective, if you want to know.

My dad was in during Korea, but not there. What a colossal waste that was.

Thanks again, Arden's Dad!!!!
