OOC: It takes a Village...Strategy Game Thread

Jagged, I don't think I have anything to add at the moment. There would be a lot of things to develop in those characters, but I would like to know first what environment they are all in.

And killing the pirates? Goodness, what a silly idea! :) It'd be such a waste of good British blood on both sides. I'm sure we would rather guide them towards the enemies of England, so that they may do what they do best and be honored and hailed for it as well.

If you swear your loyality to Queen Elizabeth and she excepts you will be saved from the wrath of my flames Wolk. I extend you this offer this once for our blood lines stretch from the same pool.
But for any others who put your ships at seas. I suggest you scuttling the boats now and save your crews their lives.

Jagged, I decided to withdraw my application for leading a tribe. It looks like you are pretty loaded up with work to keep everybody's tribes running as it is. I don't think it is a good idea to load you with even more. It will only slow everything down further.

I still like this game, though, and want to stay. If you don't mind, I'd like to play as a general (start off as a mercenary, then hopefully merge with one of the tribes' armies), a possibility you mentioned earlier in this thread. This way I can still be involved, while you don't have to handle yet another whole tribe with all the detailed things that come with it.

It would also have the potential of putting my character into physical proximity with another player's character, which would be generally hard to do if both were leaders of a tribe. This way we can hopefully have richer character-to-character roleplay interaction.

Yes, I think I would really prefer it this way. Since the English tribe hasn't really started yet, if it's possible to make a switch in the setup, I'd appreciate it. Naturally, I will make a new character, if I am to be a general.

Either way, please let me know.

That could work.......Dogs of War. Perhaps an English mercanary company. Elite longbow men for example. Could be hired by other players and Npcs. Also when my workload cuts down.....and it will you can upgrade to a town....(take over asked to lead...etc)

Please disregard this post.

Sounds great. I'd love to play with an elite company of longbows! I thought you wouldn't allow it, because they were such powerful weapons and didn't really make a big appearance until the middle ages. But since you offered it yourself... :D

Watch out, ladies and gentlemen! 10-12 shots per minute, range of 200 meters, and 170 lb of power - enough to have a good chance of punching through the best armor. :cathappy: Knights don't stand a chance. Especially French knights. ;)

Really, I think this can work well, and can be a good balancing weight for the forces in the game. Bowmen are great on defence. Longbowmen would be even better. Elite longbowmen would be better yet. If one player is in a lot of trouble and beseiged, 100 elite longbowmen on the walls of his fortress will give his forces a pretty good fighting chance against all but the most determined enemy.

So, the new intro:

CAPTAIN William Hawk

A tall 24 year old man, William posesses a very muscular, although somewhat unevenly developed body. His left arm is slightly more muscular than the right, and while his back is rolling with knots of strong muscle, his chest is less developed. These peculiar features are not so distinctive as to be ugly. On the contrary, the light-haired and green-eyed man is quite handsome. This particular way of bodily development is the result of his trade, and nearly every good archer in the mercenary company William leads has it.

Born in a Welsh settlement, rather than English lands, William's clan was one of those who favored joining with the English. They traveled to England and settled down in the border region, where the clanspeople took up the only trade they knew of - archery. They learned the language and customs of the English, mixing it with some of their own traditions.

Soon the local English authority prohibited hunting, leaving the archers without any source of food or income. Desperate, they eventually turned to crime, stopping passing travelers and robbing them. Elusive and deadly with their bows in the local forests, they were an impossible target for the English army. So, the English commander made the damage where he could. In the settlement, he turned his swords and torches on innocent women and children, and their very livelyhoods, thus destroying in one night everything the men of the clan had to live for.

That commander paid dearly for his actions, and even though a lot of clan's bowmen died in the vengeful onslaught that followed, they took a lot more English soldiers with them, and the ruthless commander was left hanging from the gates to his own fortress, looted and burnt.

In a way of black irony, this horrible unfolding of events did help stop the highwayman problem in the forests. The clan had nothing to stay in the area for. After burying their perished comrades in arms and families, they moved away. Hiring ships they sailed to unknown lands and made a living there, selling their warrior skills as a mercenary company.

Despite his youth, William excelled in battle and peace alike and was much loved and respected by everyone in the company. So, when the old head of the clan, and now Captain of the company passed away, almost all, old clansmen and newer recruits alike, agreed there was no better man to lead than William. And so Captain Hawk came to lead.
