One very gentle tomato: I don't think apple butter spreads like butter. It's basically a form or jam or jelly, and it spreads a lot more like either of those than like butter.I can't take it anymore....in American "English" the word butter may be used as a descriptor of another product to show its spreadable similarity to the dairy product. Is apple/peanut/duct butter butter? No. Does it SPREAD like butter? Yes.
