There’s still a place like that in Yellowstone, Near state lines and not-near the jurisdiction of certain emergency services and courts necessary to try and convict a murder case.

I forget the complexities in details, but the issue there is the overlapping jurisdictions. Basically, it's impossible to only commit a crime that would go to one court and not others. I think Parks after Dark did an episode on it
