Just to summarise for a UK observer, which if any of these charges present the biggest realistic threat ? I assume him getting elected ahead of any trials would potentially offer him some protection - or not ?

There are four upcoming criminal trials, two are brought by states New York and Georgia, and two are federal. Trump may be able to move the Georgia case to a federal court, but not the New York case. If he or a simpatico becomes President, he could seek a pardon from federal convictions, but not from a state conviction. Only the New York Governor would have that power.

I just figured the audio of him actually breaking the law - which is what it amounts to unless I’ve misunderstood? - as opposed to a technical breach of the same law when, as happens, a misfiled secret document ends up in an outgoing Presidents boxes without any intent - would be a clincher. Hard for him to deny, all he can seek is mitigation right ?

The election meddling seems, for all its seriousness, more tenuous at this point. But as I said, I’m an outsider only occasionally looking in.
