Yes I do, to many people and traffic and digging........making me think that they are the people.

Anyway ... back to Art! :)

Just to keep Ari guessing about my "style" and medium ... here is a drypoint etching done years ago. This was a partially completed print. I have no idea where the finished one is, nor where the original plate is.

Hey the place was busy last night!

And I'm also muy impressivo at the number of Brits we have or at least the number living on the isle.
My own experiences there are limited to a few weeks around London and Oxford. We did go to Bath, Stonehenge and Wales as well.
I lived and taught art for a year in Dundalk Ireland many years ago.

Arden, I'd still like to see the image, can you shrink it with some software?

Squantz Pond...Snork the pictures take me back luv.
I grew up in Connecticut very near a place called Burr Pond which looks very much like this.
The composition was haunting and very suggestive of time and local...a bit sad and dreamy. Wistfull but not melancholy...tyhank you for bringing it here and I hope we'll be able to listen to more of your work.

Mya I think the others here should know that you live with art on a daily basis in your work in a University Art Department up Canada way.

Angel, good morning dear...how about your favorite artists?

Star no one seems to be taking up the theme idea but I like it and I think the others would find it interesting so why dont we agree on a theme...let's say a figurative drawing and then post images of the work in progress over a set period of time to completion.
Any one posting here is welcome to do the same.
Whaddya think?

Right ... I live with an artist who also posts on here. She is called Hideous Kinky and promises to read this thread and post later. i have just asked her about the theme and she has come up with the idea of a figurative piece called "Recycled" - bizarre but it was the first thing that entered her head!

Now then ... she has just added that the title can be interpreted in any way we choose, such as re-cycling an artist's style, or using re-cycled materials, or whatever. She has also promised to join in - her mind is ticking already!!!!

Sounds like fun to me ... you up for it Ari? Arden? Anyone???

Okay a figurative piece titled 'Recycled'...can we confine it to traditional drawing materials? and how about a time span...
say 7 days...10...with three postings of pix in progress on the way.
That be doable?

7 - 10 days? I've almost finished!! (hehehe)

I don't see the need to "confine" it, Ari, as we will all work in materials that suit us. Okay - I do not intend to use a Plutonium wash or anything! We are simply interpreting the title/theme in whatever way we choose, using the materials that we want. HK likes to use fabric and stitching - confining something to "traditional drawing materials" seems a little exclusive - SM may even want to join in with a musical interpretation of the theme.

Okay with you?

LOL - "trashman blues, redux in A' giggle

Actually I thought about a collage or mosaic using small pieces of photos from magazines to get the colors and then pasting them on a design - a bit cliché though :)

I'm blown away by your haste!
Unfortunately I'll need a bit more time!
Gosh!
5 days then...let's say Tuesday at noon...no Wednesday at noon EST. My studio is a mess nad currently suitable on ly for small graphite drawings of beautiful ladies like the Snork...;)

There si nothing cliché in art luv old hats can work just fine if worn with style.

How about the number of inprogress pix?

*comes out from hiding*

Well hello to all of the talented artists here! Wow! I am pathetically untalented in the visual arts but I do have a deep appreciation for those who have the gift.

Ari....intriguing idea, the body as landscape. Immediately made me think of that opening of "The English Patient" where they show the desert sand and you can just almost see shapes and figures and flesh as the camera moves.

Snork....I liked your composition. Lovely. Kind of draws the listener in, waiting for each chord to be resolved....and then again and again. Very effective. You definitely captured the atmospheric quality you wanted to achieve.

*Snuggles into a cushy chair with an iced cappuccino*

Hi Morgana nice to see you :) am glad you stopped by here and thankyou for the kind words.

Yes Squantz pond is a very special place and can be busy with people or just peacefully deserted each with it own appeal.

The piece was a little melancholy, but I can be up beat too!
We all have a talent too, my strongest ones aren't in drawing, or even in writing. Music I find fascinating, logical, mathematical even and I would consider that my strongest talent.

I have so many bits and pieces never finished, I've always been inspired by guitars, electric guitars and modern synth music.

Big Hi's to Chele, Mya, Ari, Starfire, Arden and Angel and anyone else I missed.:rose:

Recycled

My apologies, I won't be able to participate in the Recycled event. All of my art supplies are still packed in moving boxes from last year, no where I can put them up yet... this is what I get for buying a house that was built without plumbing, electricity, and closets! And, my art table? I don't have a clue where it is yet!

Hi Folks! Just quickly I wanted to mention that I'll be watching your "Recycled" art event closely. And I wanted to mention that I am eager to see some of HK's work Starfire. I love needle craft myself, though I do not call myself an artist.

I confine my "art practice", and I do use the term lightly, to Artist Trading Cards. The original idea was started in Zurich, Switzerland, by M.VÄNÇI STIRNEMANN but there is a very active ATC community in Calgary as well. And I know many artists around the world do participate.

I have a sleeve of 9 cards (they are actual trading card size, just like baseball cards) out there in a travelling show right now. The show was in Calgary, in Switzerland, and now in Australia. I happen to use stitching for my cards (or at least up until now I have confined my endeavours there). A multitude of mediums are used by traders, some quick collages, others experiments on a small scale, and others put in hours of work on them. The idea is to trade them with others. It is fun. I, true to my anal attentive nature, tend to spend too much time on my cards, but that's the way I like it!

Anyway, if you are interested in checking into it more, here are a couple of good websites: http://www.artist-trading-cards.ch/ and http://www.nucleus.com/~thenewgallery/atcpage2.html

Looked at those web sites mya...that's a cool idea!
I may get into the game myself.
Why couldn't you do one on a recycled theme?

Arden I just moved from my studio of 25 years and am working around boxes and stacks of drawings piled high on every flat surface of my ne w studio which at the moment is a sweltering 90 degrees!
So I'm working very modestly on the kitchen table.
See if I can do it, so can you!

Snork how KOOL!..I love this one!..Chele and I can use it as we cruise route66.
Ummmm, listening to it now....

Snuggling in with my favorite soprano while I work on Stars contest...
Star where you at guy...don't let me down now! I have a cloud of charcoal dust around me.

hey I found a site I'll do a quick review of tomorrow...

I'm HERE!!!! Hey, Ari ... surely this isn't a contest? Art "competitions" such as The Turner Prize here in the UK (I'm sure there are US/Canada equivalents) always strike me as being more about the pomposity and self-aggrandisement of the judges and critics than about the artists/artefacts. So ... let this be a kind of "Workshop" session.

I was joking, btw, when I said that I was almost through, although I have my concept and have started to lay down the background. I'll scan it in a little later when it is dry. As to the "in progress" numbers - feel free to post as many as you like. I always find it interesting to see work at different stages.

Mya ... I checked out the ATC stuff - cool idea and, like Ari, may even do a few. I notice that there are no Brits on either of the sites. (Pssst ... did my Sherlock hat detect your work there???)

Arden ... I understand exactly how you feel: many artists have to have their own dedicated space in order to create. HK has only recently moved in with me and we are still working on her studio space. Consequently she is not creating much at the moment, though she did begin her "Re-cycled" piece last night. See what you can do.

SM ... I'll rig something up so that I can listen to your work today. I too am a guitarist and have a whole host of studio software on my PC. When my band was forced to split two years ago a decided that I wanted to compose alone and consequently had this comp built to exact specifications. Two years later .... ah well!

Hello to Angel and Morgana too ...

Forgot to add ...

... SM ... nothing wrong with re-cycling magazine images/text/colour ... there are no rules. Get working on it!!

(Psst ... mine involves some ripping and sticking too!)

Recycled - First stage ...

Well ... I have laid down my tonal background, concerned mainly with composition at this point. Materials = pva, tracing paper, watercolour paper and old art books that got wet in my garage!

Don't worry - the figurative stuff is still to come! I'm working on it now. This is a pretty experimental piece ... I have an image of how I want it to evolve but have not quite worked out how I am going to get there yet ... all part of the fun I guess.

OOPS!...did I say contest!
Sorry about that, this is but a demonstration of artistic interpretations.
Though Laurel and Manu promise a tears free membership to LIT for the piece that strikes their fancy.;)

Now my 'Idea' is not profound nor clever but let's say obvious.
Having just moved my studio unearthing in the process drawings that go back 25 years I decided to 'recycle' an old work in a new style...

First step...digitals of several drawings and then a final choice.
In this case I chose the first since I can remember the model well and might in this interpretation decide to add the face.
The other two were simple torso studies and the one on the far right was taken from a book and not done live....

I love the composition of the sketch at the far right...

OK, trying to think if I can accomplish anything. I don't have a digital camera, getting film developed here in a town of 10,000 takes about four days. What about something put together on the scanner?

"Tears free"?... Freudian slip?

Good drawings to start with, Ari, and an interesting interpretation of the theme. I look forward to seeing the next stage.

Arden ... scanned stuff is perfectly acceptable:)

Novel idea, scanner art. Iwill look for things old and see what I can come up with. It will be interesting since I won't be able to see the scanned images until after they are saved. I forsee a lot of time spent arranging things...

Hoping to head for the beach today, about five minutes from here... had a rather stressful day yesterday, and need some R&R.

Arden ... enjoy the beach.

As far as scanning goes I have Adobe Photoshop 5 - you can preview scans before the final scan. Can you not do that with your software? It's useful as it makes for less trial and error, though sometimes "accidental" images are more effective than arranged ones!

I was up too late last night, apparently... yes, I can preview a scan. <sheepish grin>

BTW, your AV is very attractive. I love black & white imagery, it lends so much to the mood of a picture. Just a simple compliment, of course. Photography is just another of my artistic passions. I still use my 22 year old Cannon A-1... a monster.

YEARS...not TEARS!
Damn I'm freudian slipping all over the place or is it just that i'm an artist with typos...hmmm.

Great Arden...welcome! Scanner art can be a lot of fun.
Anxious to see what you come up with.

bump

Just a quick bump before I set off for the weekend.

An observation on the thread, seems like most people associate Art with Painting and Drawing and being me I just want to say to anyone that has looked in and felt discouraged by the general theme of drawing and painting that you shouldn't be - Art cover lots of disciplines not just easles and drawing boards ok so lets here it for the many other forms of art,

Movies - favorite directors, actors - most erotic movies even porns stars we're all adults are porn movies expressive art ? opinions.

Theater - Classical and Modern, what have you seen what do you like ?

Musicals - Les Miserablés, and the Phantom of the Opera - how about the Rock Horror Show even - plenty of discussion materials there

Opera, Is German Opera Sexy or Dull, (sorry Morgana I picked up on a thread mentioning this. I think German Opera is more erotic than Italian + I can understand it better. :) all that flowery Italian warbling eeeeeeukkk and that leaping and prancing about.

which brings us to Ballet and Dance, again very erotic and sensual The Tango the Samba that hot Latin beat :) yes please !!!!

And not least MUSIC - How does music stir you, let's not confine this to the classicals which are nice, but modern music too. Does it get your feet moving, raise your heart beat, get you on the dance floor in the clubs. Feel the Bass !!! the lyrics too, in this more liberated world are we less confined from the 60's and 70's inuendo and more direct in the 21st Century with what we sing in our songs. Are they more erotic, less romantic, harder, coarser softer.

So lets not write off all these other topics Art is expressed in many forms each with equal merit and they bring pleasure to everyones life in one form or another whether it is in performing or in spectating.

Ok I have attached a half finiished midi in zip which I started last year and never really finished. by the Dandy Warhols.
It's a pretty catchy song with really cool lyrics.

Bohemian Like You

You got a great car
Yeah what's wrong with it today
I used to have one too
Maybe I'll come and have a look
I really love your hairdo yeah
I'm glad you like mine too
See where looking pretty cool
Will get ya

So what do you do?
Oh yeah I wait tables too
No I havent heard your band
'Cos you guys are pretty new
But if you dig on vegan food
Well, come over to my work
I'll have 'em cook you something
That you'll really love

'Cos I like you
Yeah I like you
And I'm feeling so bohemian like you
Yeah I like you
Yeah I like you
And I feel

Wait
Who's that guy just hangin' at your pad
He's lookin' kinda bummed
You broke up that's too bad
I guess it's fair if he always pays the rent
And he doesn't get bent about
Sleeping on the couch when I'm there

'Cos I like you
Yeah I like you
And I'm feeling so bohemian like you
Yeah I like you
Yeah I like you
And I feel

I'm getting wise and I'm feeling so bohemian like you
It's you that I want so please
Just a casual casual easy thing
Is it, it is for me
And I like you
Yeah I like you
I like you
I like you
I like you
I like you
I like you
I like you
And I feel

Have a great weekend all - see you next week

Hugs to everyone.

Special Hugs for Chele if you see this email me :) please!!!
