What’s your most controversial opinion?

What society are you a part of where the societal pressure is on women to not have kids? Have you ever heard parents talking to a 20 something daughter in a serious relationship in our society?

I live and work in California and the general opinion of the group I see every day is that pregnancy is a disease and that men are oppressors of women. Which is why few of my stories are set in this nonsensical place.

I don’t think it’s society selling women “bullshit” about waiting to have kids… I think everyone is broke and also wanting to be more established in life before jumping into the kid zone … plus the dating world is a horrible toxic cesspool so women aren’t necessarily meeting the men they want to procreate with as early.

It is bullshit when the net effect is saying that women should put off having kids until their forties and then telling them that it's too dangerous to have kids in their forties.

That women owe it to themselves to get laid at the age when they want to get laid and then have babies at an early age. This bullshit that society sold to women about waiting until they're forty to even try to have a kid is bullshit.

This is a bad take. I suppose it does belong in this thread, but it is also highlighting that you aren’t fully aware of the situation. Women can and absolutely should “get laid” when they choose to and with a partner who understands consent. Women are under no obligation to have children, though. Respect women’s choices.

Dude. Women are CHOOSING to not have children. Societal pressure is to get married and have babies. Younger women are allowed to have their feelings and they are absolutely right. If I were in my 20s right now, there is no fucking way I would be planning to have children. We are presently living in a dystopia and Gen Z is fully aware.

Fans are the worst thing something creative can have. Once fans feel they are entitled to something because they liked that original thing, it stifles creativity and makes the art repetitive and dull.

President Bush should be imprisoned for war crimes including sending our men and women to war based on lies, illegally detaining enemy prisoners and authorizing torture.

I'd go further and say, with the exception of maybe Carter, every living president should be tried for war crimes.

My son and his fiancée are 5 minutes into their engagement, both well under 25 and she is especially being inundated by friends, family, coworkers and strangers alike suggesting she hurry up and start a family. She is 21 tomorrow!

Women are routinely pressured, early, often and even relentlessly, to have children. It’s gross. It’s the first thing my others sons (now ex) girlfriend’s Mother told me when they started dating. ‘You know she doesn’t want kids, right?’ And? Sounds like a conversation between our adult kids, without input from either of us! As it is, she wants kids and he does not, hence why they’re no longer dating, but at 23 she was already tired of her parents talking about grandchildren.
I'm going to disagree here. Society (at least around me in Boston) tells women to delay child bearing until they have established a career. I think it's a mistake. Having children when you are young and healthy makes the raising of them easier.
THAT SAID, pressuring kids into the decision is flat out wrong. I would advise them and explain my reasons, but it's such a life changing decision that THEY NEED TO BE BOUGHT IN NOT PRESSURED.

People are getting married way to fast. The pressure from previous generations to get a high paying job, find a partner and have kids is annoying. Our society is not built on love but your worth is reduced to how much money you have in your back account and its just sad to be honest.

Grrrr other people just love to tell women what to do.

Women are not funny stand-up comedians and I think most guys who try so hard to throw one in their Favorites lists are doing so out of pressure.

I disagree
As a woman who has raised kids in her teens/early twenties and then again in her late thirties, the emotional regulation and maturity I bring to the table as a fully formed adult cannot be ignored.
My children are well adjusted and have stable parents. They can navigate the complexities of life with ease. The first batch didn't get that because I was still learning how to be an adult myself.

My controversial opinion: I try to think kindly of people who are married, but secretly I see it as a form of socially approved prostitution. I will prepare to be massacred for this.

PS: The photo as my profile picture is a Victorian photograph I used to illustrate what Bertha Rochester in Jane Eyre might have looked like as a bride at a conference. #TeamBertha

Without getting deep into either side (and I severely resent any other side but the two prominent sides are even considered),I feel like most Americans haven't a clue how their constitution works nor how most governmental process works. The don't understand the exact job description of their leaders. I feel like those in power are perfectly satisfied with the general ignorance. FTR none of those in power represent me, know anything about me, nor give three fucks.

Also pineapple on pizza is an abomination :p
