What’s your most controversial opinion?

Lol I won't speak to UK parking lots and traffic but here, I think it makes you look like a selfish that who can't drive so you'll make everyone stop and watch you slowly maneuver you big ass truck between two other cars so you can save a fraction of a second when you're leaving.

Its easier and faster to back into a wide open space than between two other vehicles.
Feel free to assume that it's about saving a fraction of a second when I leave, and feel free to call me a selfish twat (do try to spell it correctly through... 😉)

But it's totally about safety, especially if you have 'big ass trucks' either side. How do you see the traffic you're reversing into?

Thanks for the spell check. It's 5am here.

We aren't backing into traffic here. We are backing into lots where everyone is backing out and everyone is aware of how to do it. Again, this may be a difference in countries - and I made it clear I was referring to US drivers - but it's fucking annoying when someone can't back out of a simple parking spot.

It's my controversial opinion (well I coopted it from @FistfulOfMyHair sorry!) and I will be taking no further questions 😂

Seeing as you're taking no further questions, can someone else tell me how cars and trucks get round the car parks to find an empty space if there's no traffic and people are only backing out of spaces?

As a non-driver, I don’t care whether people reverse in or out of parking spaces as long as they (whoever has taken me that day) have room in the boot for my shopping 😁

However, when I am unsure about something, I use the wise old words of Google and that says:

“It is generally safer and more convenient to reverse into a parking space rather than driving into it and reversing out. This is because reversing into a space allows for better visibility when exiting, as you are facing forward and can see approaching traffic more clearly. It also offers greater control when maneuvering into the space, especially in tight or angled spots.”

Both police and criminals park in the getaway position. You'd look like a right berk if you had to scramble, and ended up doing a 3-point turn while everyone else zooms down the road.

So surely reversing a bigger car further out of a space means you have more to go blind...?

Not to mention the sheer technicalities:

It is the front wheels that makes the turn.
You will need more space to back into a parking lot, space you have when you back into the lot.

(Think of lorries, there is a reason why they back into small spaces!)

Backing out into the traffic will take up more space, as the end of the car cannot make the swing. That is what the front end does.

- the front end that you have locked in the end of the parking lot.

Think of the way the car is built.

🤷🏼‍♀️

This seems like a ridiculous SoMe created discussion and rant, started by someone who got frustrated and made some sort of post..

Basically, absurdly subjective and being carried on by people who do not care about the safety or technicalities.

It is a nonsense discussion really.

We could talk about people needing to be better drivers.
But that is a whole different discourse.

I didn't want to get into the physics of different turning circles depending on whether the front or back wheels were turning seeing as what I saw as the relatively simple point that seeing through solid metal is harder than over a bonnet / hood was causing so much consternation...

Also, the OP did say it was a controversial opinion. We ran with it 😂😂

It was just in response to safety and that the American cars supposedly are bigger than the Europeans.
And that there is no space for their cars.

Hence why I mentioned the lorries. They always park in reverse.

And... I could not help but make funny faces..

Try to drive around inner Copenhagen, a city over 850 years old.. no matter what car you drive, there will not be much space!!
And that is just one city.. 🤣

Oh and here’s me thinking I nailed the whole point of this thread. 😂

I will just be over here with my 4x4 truck parked in a ditch by the woods outside the city enjoying my life and not looking for a place to park 😎😂
