What makes you feel like a true adult?

Honestly… The fact that “problems” are minimal. It’s knowing I’m secure enough (emotional/financial/etc), and practical enough that when something does come up I feel well equipped to handle it. And I don’t half ass things. I either do it well or not at all

For me it was when, around a year ago, I realized that I had moved into a house on my own. I got excited because I found a great deal on a lawn mower and weed wacker, I had a dog, I had just bought my own furniture, and I had a car. I thought back on a younger version of myself who would view a 21-year-old is having their life super together, and realizing now that when I was 21 I did not. I have a career as well, which really doesn't hurt matters.

Sometimes I still feel completely lost (like when I have to file taxes, or look at my investments) but for the most part, this adulting thing has been going pretty well lately 😁

I feel like I truly passed into adulthood when my mom gave me life advice and I thought "Wow, that's fucking terrible advice. She has no idea how things work. That is just destructively misguided." And never went to my parents for anything ever again. Lol

Being branded by the law, acquiring the capacity to be bound by contract, deed, and document. Welcome to the world!

The other day I was talking to my semi-adult kiddo the other day - he’s almost 20 and his sister is almost 21 and both live away from home in apartments (we still pay all of their bills because they are in school so any money they make is theirs to spend on things that make life fun) and he has been doing “adult things” because he’s moving and breaking a lease. He keeps telling me how stressed he is because of it and I say, “Welcome to being an adult.” - so I guess always being stressed is the final answer!

Part of me likes to think that there is more than that. There is definitely a higher responsibility and stress load associated with being an adult, but I think the fun and enjoyment factor also increases. Because you work hard for money, and have less vacation, the times you are able to relax and buy what you want, or go where you want to, mean that much more.

Going to hospital to say goodbye to a loved one.
That is the worst bit of being an adult. That and not believing in Santa😜

The profound importance that pooping has in my life now.
Like, the joy of an entire day is obliterated if the pipes are frozen, iykwim.
