Elizabeth Kostova.

I've had that book on my to be read pile for years, never got around to it.

Just a comment on one of your earlier posts: Stalingrad is a very powerful and thought provoking account of what happen. Have you read Berlin: The Downfall? That seems to be causing a lot of controversy among Russian politicians.

right now I'm reading Blood Noir by Laurell K Hamilton and The Battle of Ideas in the War on Terror by Robert satloff.

Yeah berlin was brutal too! Compared to what the germans perpetrated in the east it is hardly surprising that the red army went a bit mental! His account of the spanish civil war was a bit dry considering the fascinating subject matter! Always been a fan of the POUM governent in catalonia.

Yeah, I always find it fascinating that the POUM went back to the 'roots' of communism and dared to criticise Stalin. However, to be honest I haven't read much on the Spanish Civil War.

I've just finished reading Fateful Choices by Ian Kershaw. That was an interesting read.

. . .

Just finished reading, Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea.
I thought there would be more math in a book like this, but apparently its literally all about how zero came about. Shucks!

In the end POUM were betrayed by the stalinist bastards(excuse my profanity).I think they were more anarchist than the anarchists themselves! Homage to catalonia by Orwell is a must read, he thought in a POUM regiment, thats why he hated stalin so much! So many great writers and artists fighting evil thats why I was a bit dissapointed by Beevors work!

Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson and Neuromancer by William Gibson...

No, I'm not a sci-fi nerd at all.

Just finished "Into the Wild" - Jon Krakauer

Such a well known book, you may have already read it by now... what took me so long? Quick read and nice conversational piece

I liked his over most, which is why I remember being so stoked when I first got wind of Johnny Neumonic. Now then, in Neuromancer, Molly mentions her friend Johnny who got capped by the yakuza. Just a bit of trivia or you.

The book I've been waiting for for six months - Lover Enshrined by JR Ward. I know a lot of people are having problems with this particular book, I don't know why.

I love June, a lot of new releases coming out.

Bargain at the library!

Picked up the Devils by Dostoyevsky and after the quake Haruki Murakami for 15p each! It's a deal it's a steal it's the deal of the fuckin century!

Just picked up another bargain at the Library for only 10pence!
It's called Now it's time to say goodbye by Dale Peck an American writer I know absolutly nothing about but the blurb made it sound amazing!

"An utterlygripping thriller-crammed full of suspense, Gothic horror and often startling violence.... This dark, ferocious book reads like Twin Peaks and Pulp Fiction combined with Days of thunder and to kill a mocking bird, with some bits of Faulkner, Carson McCullers and Flannery O'Connor thrown in for good measure."

And the dedication is pretty cool too.
"I wouldn't wish this book on anyone!"

Am looking forward to reading this one. Does any one know anything about him?

As a public service I find that it helps to curb my evil side by placing copies of those books in the childrens section next to the Dr. Seuss stuff.

Thats wicked Betti but devilishly funny too!:D
I found a copy in the christian aid charity shop. Little did the little old lady behind the counter know the filth she was peddaling me!

Radical Evolution by Joel Garreau...man there's weird stuff they can implant in people these days. I'm just waiting to see the troops who don't hemhorrage when they get shot. Or whether or not telepathy is manufactured in my lifetime. Crazy nano-technology. Dunno where it stops...
