What's the best country?

The Island of Literotica

Balmy weather, gentle trade winds, white sandy beaches, awesome diving, a Geyser that shoots out beer and diamonds (for foreign exchange), no clothes allowed, the Golden Rule is the only religion, death penalty for impoliteness, a high degree of eroticism, no jealously, a huge in-active volcano with great sking at the higher elevations, and sufficient food growing wild.

Oh, and free broadband and Wi-Fi.

Now, now.......no politics, there's plenty of other threads for that 'pretentious bullshit'.

:rose:

My ideal country would favor pretentious bullshit, lazy carefree days and funding from other governments...and it would have a castle, cause they are cool. Not like a disney type castle, that's too gay, but a cool gothic, gargoyle encrusted castle with indoor plumbing.

From everything I know about Australia- that's my pick.

Goodness, I don't have any good reasons to post- erm, nice weather, laid back people and lot's of water:)

Feel free to ad support if you also wish to nominate Austrailia.

Oh yea, and after seeing lord of the rings- New Zealand. For pure beauty. I'd also love to see the Irish countryside.

I piss off everyone when I watch LotR: The Two Towers, because I've ridden through the kingdom of Rohan. Absolutely beautiful day out and I have fond memories of riding through such wonderful countryside, talking to one of our guides, who earned extra money as an Uruk-hai (sp?) in the films.

America's good. The political bullshit is what it is, bullshit. I have hope that someone with actual charisma will eventually pull their heads out of their ass and notice that those yelling loudest about their God are the ones who follow him the least. Until then, the people here are good, the Universities are so far shiny and I have the freedom to leave if there is ever an attack on the shininess. America has beauteous nature and if idiots destroy it all I have the freedom to leave. America has good people and if idiots kill them all, I have the freedom to leave. At the moment, though, it's a good place. Sure, there are idiots, even scary idiots, but no country is free of them. Look at the Canadian guy ranting on the other thread. Nationalistic idjit.

If not America due to idiots or perhaps a nice and shiny opportunity in job, I wouldn't mind at all either Japan or UK. The latter has amazing museums, music, science, theatres, writers, and people. The former is the home of the anime and manga which is becoming a good 60-75% of my reading/watching list and they have an ever improving writing field. Assuming I could master their language, it would be a nice place to live.

But for now, so close to the Sierras, ocean, and desert, surrounded by so much shininess, I say fuck the politicos, America is great. The people are for the most part decent, the land awesome, and our history and institutions flawed but not doomed. Sure there are assholes. Sure, humans act like humans. Sure, politicians feed on that to fuck things up. That's their job and maybe someday when we're done deifying them, we'll get that.

Okay, that's the word from down here.

I'm with RG on the Canada stuff, but I'd also add that I simply love the weather.

Yes, I was hit on the head a few too many times as a child, so noone else needs to comment on me liking the cold :)

Probably the best part of Canada is the Maritimes. You won't find many places with people nicer than the Newfoundlanders (AKA Newfies). They know the best Newfie jokes too, which are much better than blonde jokes.

Thats about it for my rant.

I love the people, the idiosyncracies of the British race (that includes the Scots, Welsh and Irish), I love our quirkiness, our compassion for the underdog, and like RG, I'm so damn glad I live in a place where my entitlement to health care is not entirely dependent upon the contents of my wallet.

To me, Britain, and in my case, England, is the most wonderful place in the world. I wouldn't exchange its warmth and cosiness for almost anything (but there are those who could seriously tempt me. ;) )

You've revived my dormant envy of Britain. I like that it's been around for a while and has survived a few beheadings and such without losing its sense of humor. Your gifts to the world have included Monty Python and Blackadder and more than enough good entertainment to merit forgiveness for Benny Hill. Your women have nice complexions.

Good plumbing, or just plumbing? Not those holes in the floor?

Don't forget air-conditioning. And escalators.

I don't get it.

My ideal country is wherever I happen to be.

I loved Spain, Australia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Italy, Gibraltar, Wales, England, Morocco, Egypt...

I enjoy the change. Some things are missing in some countries but other things are present to enjoy. I don't travel with my own food. I'd eat Vegemite in Australia but not look for it the UK.

When in Rome...

Og

PS. My ideal is a world cruise stopping for at least a month in each country and having a large cabin to relax in between destinations.

If not, you can stay in mine. I'm putting in free popcorn machines in the lobby.

Will it have a resident headless ghost?

If not, I can supply one free of charge.

Well, I know the cheapest way to get a castle.. Buy some land in the permafrosted areas of Canada, and build a snow castle *nods knowingly*

So, some day I will defiantely own a castle.. it just might not be a permament structure.

Me too. NZ is one awesome damn place.

Denmark.

Very open, forgiving people. They're friendly, and welcoming to everyone. And most of 'em are damn good-looking. The country's a walking postcard for fairytales.
