World Cup 2026

Those photos actually show exactly why it should not have been a red card.

One, even you admit there is not intent there and intent is supposed to be a consideration for red card decisions. Yes you can get suspended when there is no intent but it's when your actions are so wreckless that it makes the actions inherently dangerous from their wreck less less. This does not meet that standard. If you want an act that would meet that, you should watch Rice kicking a Mexican player in the face in the first minute last night. Kicking your opponent in the face deserves a red card. Stepping on someone's leg when you are not even facing them does not.

Two, you are using photos. VAR reviews should not be using slow motion or frozen images. That's in their own rules. Only the ignorant argue for results that violate your own rules

So no, it should not have been a red card.

Now it's arguably even worse what FIFA and Trump have done since leading it to being overturned. Americans aren't even happy about how this happened , but to the degree that it feels just because the red card should not have happened in the first place, they are going to accept it. Maybe people will see it just as ruining the integrity of the sport - maybe they will see it as justice for an unjust red card . People do see things differently.

The ratings have been pretty massive so far for the World Cup in America. It might not result in much, but it certainly suggests it is likely to bump in popularity

I think there was a US soccer league way back in the 70s that signed an aging Pele. How did that work out

You are an idiot. Someone that thinks James is worth 60 million.

No, I'm correct. You simply are wrong and have nothing left to pretend you are correct with other than to name call. You are a sad child.

And James is worth WAY more than 60 million. But you have fun with the Lakers in the lottery.

I think it was a red card too. Are you going to tell me I am wrong too? People are going to think what they want to think no matter what.

Well you didn't start off trying to use evidence to prove your point that actually proves why VAR was wrong and you didn't follow it up with providing the exact reason why it was not a red card. But you also don't seem to making the arguments that people will think what they want towards anyone who agrees with you, so there is that too

I'm just stating how I saw things. If people agree with me then great. If you don’t, that's fine. We all see things differently. I'm not trying to sway people's opinion, I'm just simply stating mine.

That's fine. But just because it's an opinion, does not mean it cannot be wrong.
If someone says it's a red card because it happened on a Tuesday, that's not really an opinion that anyone else has to - or should - respect or accept.
If someone says they are showing you proof of something which is directly in violation of the rules, then that proof does not have to be accepted (and actually proves the opposite of what they were trying to show).
But absolutely have your opinion.

The “was it a red or not” debate is irrelevant in this context.

The rules of the Tournament are that if you get a red card, you serve a ban. There is no right to appeal. Whether you agree with that rule or not doesn’t really matter, those are the rules as they stand and every team knows that at the start of the World Cup.

Every other player sent off so far has served a ban as per those rules. So for a politician to get directly involved with FIFA is highly questionable. For FIFA to then suspend the ban for a player is unprecedented and leaves a very sour taste.
