Any more Sci Fi fans her?

I'm a fan of star trek, even though roddenberry was a bit of a socialist... LOL The design of TNG was the complete anti-bladetunner, anti-star wars, and elevated design to new heights.

If you're into books, check out the hyperion/endymion series by dan simmons... best shit ever written.

new x files movie should be in production next year

Hadn't heard there was gonna be another. Good deal, something to look forward to.

Anyone watch Jericho? Don't think that it quite fits the SciFi mold, but it's a great show!

re

I've been hearing for quite a while now about a possible X-Files movie, still can't find any info about it being put into action, hope you're right,

You know I watch Battlestar Galactica as well, I'm not as high on it as everyone else is. I loved the original, but with this one, I find myself looking at the clock a lot while watching it, asking myself why I bother to keep tuning in. I'm sure there are things I like about it but I take exception to people who call it the best show on tv, its far from it in my opinion.

I also find myself watchingthe clock while BG is on, but for a completely different reason. I know that when it ends, they are going to leave me begging for more! I think that the original was great, but it was a bunch of one episode story lines. This one keeps you riveted through the season, and into the next. No tidy endings, which I hate!

just found this thread, so thought i would add..... Dr Who...loved to watch it since i was a kid, Tourchwood of course, SG-1, Star Trek and all its spin off, BG, love Firefly and the spin off movie....Like most Si-Fi....well I dont think I am sad :D

Yesterday I picked up the Firefly series as the freebie in a buy one get one free deal. I've heard pretty good scuttlebutt about the show but never saw it. In your opinion, was this a good one to take a chance on or should I have gone with the first season of Hill Street Blues? I won't get the chance to watch the dvds until (maybe) next weekend.

I'm a big firefly fan, so I think it's a very good choice!

What's wrong with socialism?

But, back to the thread . . .

I've heard good things about Hyperion, though I haven't gotten to read it yet (damn that dissertation prep). Side note, C.J. Cherryh's Foreigner series (all seven books so far) is phenomenal - I've finally gotten #7 and have been neglecting a lot of projects and other work due to reading. :)

May as well plug one of my all time favourite SF books too - R.A. Heinlein's Tunnel in the Sky (Lord of the Flies with a slightly alterd premise, very altered result, and in space).

If we're going to talk books. then one has to mention the "Wheel of Time" series by Robert Jordan. Excellent book, with story lines that go on for what sems like forever. Great characters as well.

My fav author is James. P. Hogan.. awesome writer.. His Giants trilogy is a hallmark in scifi and worth the read. He's a lot like Tom Clancy in that he writes around actual technology without being boring and he keep you hanging on the edge.. and usually twist right at the end as in "Tomorrow's Yesterday" so that you never see the end coming and can rarely figure it out.

While we're talking books I'd recommend Joe Haldeman's The Forever War.

I'm a huge sci-fi fan. I love Stargate SG-1 especially, although less so after the later seasons .. but things are picking up nicely with the introduction of the Ori.

The 'new' Battlestar Galactica .. best sci-fi/drama in a long time.

Most of Trek - although, I know I'm going to get pelted with tomatoes for this but I love Voyager the best. DS9 comes in a close second but it's a real epic - you need to take the whole 7 seasons as a whole, for example. Currently catching up with all of TNG to fill in the gaps.

Love Farscape unbelievably - although I'm a new-ish fan. Caught up with the whole series, again to 'fill in the gaps', after Ben Browder joined SG1.

Didn't dig Firefly, sorry :)

Are these worth it to get into? I spotted them at the local Borders - and there's about 10+ of these in the series.

I agree with your comments about Galactica. It is a must see for me every week they air a new episode. I've started watching Dr. Who the hour before as well.

As for Trek, Voyager would have been better if they could have utilized the premise more than they did. They should have, I thought, been more rough around the edges after being stranded. I thought the Equinox episode was a bit more realistic as to what they might have faced. But I did enjoy the show overall. I am a Niner at heart when it comes to favorite Trek series though.

And it's always nice to meet a fellow Scaper. :)

DEFINATELY woth it. The first book hooks you from about 100 pages in, and from the non, it was torture waiting for the next one to come out. There are actually 11 of them so far, with the 12th and last one due to be released this spring.

I have actually read all of them at least twice so far, as I got into them from the first release. So, when a new one came out, I would re-read the last one or two to keep the story fresh in my mind.

It's definately an investment in time, but worth every minute!

Trek, especially New Gen, Star Wars all of them, anything to do with Time travel,
Thus my favorite of all time " City On The Edge Of Forever "

I enjoyed that episode as well but I believe the fault the writers of Trek fell into was using time travel way too much in their storylines. Would have been much better small doses.

Agreed, I did not see hardly any of " Enterprise " but the Time wars arc was really too much.

Did you know that Ray had a falling out with Harlan Ellison over " City On The Edge Of Forever " & they never spoke again till Ray was needing a script for " Star Trek the Motion Picture " ?

Lots of great behind the scenes stories with Trek, Thanks again Lucy, I never liked your comedy but I Love that you gave the green Light to Trek.

Having only seen Harlan in a couple interviews and commentaries, he seems like a fairly abrasive and slightly egotistical guy. The ego is justified based on what I've read by him. Still, not surprised that they had a falling out.

Ah yes...Desilu. I'd forgotten that.

Biggest issue I had with Voyager was that they had too many writers - which I suppose is what happens when you take any script that fans send in. The whole series lacked any sort of continuity - especially after the hundredth "irreplaceable" torpedo was used and the twentieth or thirtieth "irreplaceable" shuttlecraft was blown up . . .

And it was one of those series that, quite frankly, lost its appeal after the first dozen or so episodes. When achieving the goal of the series is also the end of the series, there's only so far that the writers/producers can go. Which was the advantage of all the other series, IMHO. They didn't have a single, set, and finite goal, put either a) had exploration for exploration's sake at the core or b) had multiple plotlines.

Love Farscape unbelievably - although I'm a new-ish fan. Caught up with the whole series, again to 'fill in the gaps', after Ben Browder joined SG1.

Always glad to find another fan of this one. :D Loved Crighton and Aeryn, Chiana and D'argo. :)
