Wow...it's been a while since I've posted here.

Going to give a bump since there is a lot of really good information on this thread.

Have you broken down and gotten your first corset? If so, share the experiences! :D

Not yet. Waiting until I've finished my weight loss, or at least have it at a steady weight. But sometime around the end of this year or the first of next I plan on either buying one or making my own.

I would definitely recommend taking the early days of lacing up quite slowly and carefully. A few people have talked about how sore they are after wearing their corsets, and I suspect that is because they only do it on the odd ocassion, and then pull themselves in too tightly. Of course that will end up hurting :(

When I take mine off (when I'm in my regular routine, which has completely gone out the window lately) the only discomfort I have is skin-related, I get the boning welts and red spots where the fabric has rubbed, but I don't tend to get the back pain. As a few people have said, letting yourself out slowly is pretty important...

Go to the 'articles' page at this site - not only does Amy explain proper lacing technique (with or without a partner), but she talks about the BDSM aspects of it as well. I will be buying a corset off her asap, I love the wasp shape rather than the hourglass corsets I currently have...

This is where I bought my training corset. They were very quick and it's been a good corset for me :) I have other 'pretty' ones, but its worth having a plain cotton everyday corset. Adn if you're going to actually 'corset train', get a custom made one, don't buy a cheap lingerie one... it needs to fit you well or it can cause damage.

where do you, or others... get one custom made? Can I go to Vic secrets and get good measurements and from there work on something with someone else (online/phone) Is the tech. from the wasp site good measurements to go by to get one custom? I am in a difficut area and my resources have been phone, measuring and my SO to help me... I have been interested, but never get a good hook to start on.

I do not want to start the wrong way and do any damage... and I don't want a cheapo lingere one. I was looking at sub-shop now that it was dropped in my lap. I want one for weight loss help, and some figure/corset training. Is there a good shape to start with?
I know what is pretty and shapely that I like, but where do I start really?

If you are sewing inclined, here is a web site that will help you generate a custom pattern. Atthe very least, it explains what measurements are needed and how to take them.

I love corsets and I've always been fascinated by this as well but I already have a touchy lower back. I think I'd be afraid to make that worse by making my back to reliant on a corset for support. (they sure do look cool as hell though)

Oh, and the mild acid reflux probably wouldn't allow me to wear one for very long either.

How do you guys wear this kind of stuff without developing severe health problems as side effects? Absolutley amazing at what the human body is capable of.

I bow to you.

Wow, what an amazing resource. I haven't checked back on this until now and am very grateful for the information provided. I bookmarked several of the sites, including the "make your own" site. Very interesting read and I'm thankful for the contributions.

Corsets are very suitable for men to wear, whether they are MTF or not. Romantasy has some information about it:
http://www.romantasy.com/index.html?BodyURL=ZXQ/second-level-pages/mens-stays-and-transgender.html

Also check out the galleries section of the Romantasy site - there are plenty of pictures of MTF women wearing corsets.

I'm overjoyed to mention that after many years of keeping my corset training wishes private, I am going to start some form of it. I've been fascinated by corsets for years - I get incredibly turned on by the sight of a woman in one, especially looking at myself in the mirror - but I never really mentioned it to anybody.

I came across a Hello Kitty corset (I love HK, believe it or not) and I sent the link to Daddy as amusement. Eir response was "I was actually thinking about corsets the other day. [describes eir ideal corset] I would want you to be able to wear the corset during office hours."

Needless to say, I just about died from delight. I have been researching corsets and come up with a number of possibilities (my favorite so far is the cotton one from Meschantes) but we haven't made any firm decisions yet. Daddy has very specific criteria for what the corset should be like, so I wrote to the LISA owner (LISA is at staylace.com) to ask for help and he basically sneered at me and acted all snooty. So I'm back to doing it myself, but that's okay because I have a wonderful time doing it.

I do already have a quality formal corset (I think it's similar to this one; the label says Ms. Antoinette) but it doesn't fit me at all anymore. When we bought it (off the rack in Purple Passion, not custom made) it fit me well but my tits were too small for the laced top; now my tits fit the lace top well but my natural waist is far too large!

Daddy has been saying all kinds of nice things while I've been doing the research. I'm really excited about finally starting this process.

I know you are great at research, but don't overlook a free one you already have. LiveJournal. there are a number of corset communities on there, including two very active ones with the community names of "corsetry" and "corsetmakers", plus a tight lacing community or two "tightlaces" is one, but i think there are more. I know that on "corsetry", people are getting recommendations all the time as to what sort of quality, style and type is best suited for their particular needs.

Happy lacing!

As if my friends list weren't long enough already! :D

So far my research has mostly consisted of looking at corsetmakers' collections. I have so much fun doing that I forget to do anything else! Thank you for the suggestion of asking the questions there - I was a bit discouraged by the snootiness of the LISA guy.

Well, I know it gets with the friends list ;)
as for the ones mentiopned above, tightlaces is not very active, but there is a good bit of advice and research material on there.

And corsetry is VERY friendly to new people with questions!

thread

Very good thread for me.. AND I have not finished page one yet!!! Time restaints for now , but I well bookmark this one and return to finish at a later time. Thanks to all for your help and thoughts..

That's an awesome site, AA. Thanks for the tip-off.

I'm still investigating the possibilities of corset training. I found a custom maker in the UK that I will probably work with. She's still somewhat new to corsetmaking (which is why I can afford her pricing!) but she is familiar with tightlacing herself. I explained that I'm not ready to go full-time or full-reduction yet, and she said that's fine - she can make a corset for me with a maximum 4-inch reduction. Later, after I'm ready to go further, she'll already have my measurements and we can work together again.

One thing that I am concerned about is how corset training will interact with my medical issues. I have chronic urticaria (hives), which is mostly controlled through tons of medication. Wearing something tight for a long period of time can (but doesn't always) make me break out along the point where it's tight. I'm hoping a corset liner will help with this, though.
