Emily’s NEW positivity and being nice to each other thread

My bf still does just that, and he’s got a Canon R5 as his main camera 😊.

A friend of mine is an avid photographer, and does it too. Then he complains that his girlfriend takes a hundred pictures on her phone while he's preparing for the one, and she usually has one among them that's better than his.

I don't imagine you can still drop that off at the nearest Walgreens to be developed.

Far from it. Kodak withdrew processing - and the chemistry - in 2010. There was somebody who tried selling a "compatible" process a few years back, and from what I heard ruined more rolls than were successful. Really too bad, as it was a great film. I don't feel the same love with my digital Canon and especially not my phone.

Yeah - photography is not one of my talents 😬

Back in the day we'd spend an age trying to compose the perfect picture, with everyone in the right position and the light perfect and all the camera settings just right. Then we clicked, and forgot. Weeks later we'd see how they turned out.

Nowadays people take a picture in a split second, then spend minutes looking at it to see whether it's good enough.

A whole different attitude towards photography.

(Also, remember going on holiday with friends, and everyone filling out a list of which photos they wanted to order copies of?)

If using 120 film you have (normally) 12 shots. getting it right is important.
There was the occasional bonus of finding a long-forgotten roll of film, too, anybody's guess what's on it until you get it developed.

Done this many a time. Or start a roll and not finish it for ages. It's like a mini time machine

E6 processing. Kodak re-introduce Ektachrome slide film a few years back. It is stunning, also stunningly expensive. If you get it right, it i just amazing. Also, the 'positives' look amazing when you get the rolls back - little photos in their own right.

Film still has a great look and can be better in some light as digital struggles with white balance at times. It's also more tactile as you have to load and unload it, rather than just snap and forget.

Yeah, but that's Ektachrome. Didn't like Ektachrome. For me it tended to shift colors towards green (K64 liked reds) and its archival quality left a lot to be desired. I have K25 and K64 from 50 years ago that are crisp and wonderful, and the little Ektachrome I shot, the images are faded and even more green-shifted.

Moot anyway. I'm okay with the Canon digital I have especially since I'm not doing that much with it these days.

I wish Ektachrome was a bit brighter - Much like Mr Simon sang about Kodachrome. Odd as Ektar (negative film) is very punchy, especially with a blue sky. Still, it's good to have some slide film as it does have a certain 'thing'.
