I doubt this is the first ever leak from the SCOTUS by the way. I think this is the first time something was leaked that people actually give a shit about. I'm not gonna dig into every ruling ever but I have a hard time believing that there haven't been leaks that probably had to do with stupid shit like do you own your trash or once its outside it becomes fair game for people to dig through. Or what exactly constitutes probable cause? Like if you own a Porche but live in the ghetto does that mean you're a criminal? Just 30% of Americans say they'd like to see the Supreme Court completely overturn its Roe vs. Wade decision, with 69% opposed -- a finding that's largely consistent both with other recent polling and with historical trends. In a set of three surveys taken last autumn by different pollsters, support for overturning Roe vs. Wade stood between 20% and 31%, depending on the precise framing of the question. And in CNN's polling dating back to 1989, the share of the public in favor of completely overturning Roe has never risen above 36%.

I do not think this will be a winning electoral issue for the Republicans.

I do think it will be fun to watch.

Right now I am enjoying watching the pro abortion militants screech and howl.

Later it will be fun to watch Republican politicians lose elections over this controversy.

I agree it will be interesting to watch. I have my doubts that it will be a significant factor in the fall elections though. Abortion ranks fairly low among voter priorities. Among those for whom it is a top priority, many are pro-life.

Also, as the public learns more about the (presumed) decision, they’ll realize striking down Roe is not the same thing as a nationwide ban on abortion. Not much will change for most Americans.

There’s lots noise today and that will go on for a while. Once the final decision is handed down, the news will be digested. Midterms are a referendum on the incumbent president. Concerns about his handling of inflation, crime, the border, etc. coupled with growing doubts about his competence and mental fitness are driving this election cycle.

Leaks do happen, but the leak of an entire prospective majority opinion is probably unprecedented.

The more I think about it, I wonder if this opinion was leaked to show people a "worst case scenario," and then when the final decision is announced and some of the rougher edges have been sanded away, certain dummies will go, "Oh, I guess that's a mixed decision then," even though the far right will still have gotten 99.9% of what it wanted. In other words, I think it was *probably* leaked by someone from the liberal chambers, but it's not a sure thing.
