Some on this board demand to know what Harris would do about immigration, but in fact there is no reason why she should do anything differently than how it's done now. It is not a problem to solve. Immigrants, legal or illegal, are not bringing in disease . . they are not bringing crime, they actually are more law-abiding than native citizens . . . they're not burdening public service without paying taxes . . . they're not even trying to vote illegally . . .

Immigration does drive down working-class wages. That is the only downside to it -- and even there, it's really not all that bad.

The Republicans -- and I mean the voters, not the pols -- should feel really deeply ashamed of how they scuttled W's immigration-reform bill in 2007. That was pure xenophobia and nativism, there was no excuse at all for it.

The main problem with Mexican immigration is nobody in Mexico who is not "connected" has gotten US government approval to immigrate here. They can't come here unless they already have a blood relative here. due to immigration quota constraints.

We tried the German "guest worker" model and it failed spectacularly...it seems American employers are eager to flout employment law when it comes to immigrant workers, who they regard as disposable.

Right now, America’s politicians seem far more concerned with the supposedly unsustainable increases in immigration than the massive worker shortage, the collapse in the worker-to-retiree ratio, and the catastrophic loss of skilled workers from the United States to China and other countries.

America needs people both in the short and long term, and it needs workers of all skill types. Immigrants can help, and they should be allowed to do so legally.
