March Poetry Contest Discussion Thread

I would love to enter a poem and compete, as I am sure would Eve and Angeline, but only if everyone agrees to it. We wouldn't vote, of course. :):rose:
It's fine with me if Ange and you want to enter.

I don't. I may just put something in a non-contest thread. I'm contested out for a while. :D

I can understand that. :)
And I've written a lot of sp-inspired poetry over the past year, so... I'm not sure if or when inspiration will strike again. The non-contest thread is good idea.

I think it would be well fitting for those who knew him to certainly write in this contest, and those who did't must struggle through the wonderful marvelous poetry and try and descide which to play off of?

I don't see a problem with it matter of fact I think it would be more focused on ther theme, <grin> The poll speaks for it self so I don't see why voting would be an issue one vote per each right?

Art, I think she meant because the people who run the contest know who wrote the poems, which does not matter in being in the contest, but would take from the anon. spirit.

Eve, I am also not sure I can get the inspiration....I am half afraid to even try! A friend told me, Just go pick out a poem and do it like everyone else!

can I just be responsible for the paperware? I can make the punch. Bring Ice Cream? How about I get the keg.

Maybe a moon-bounce?

then I think okay if we are doing this do it right, make an honest effort. It is out there, I should help to make it work and contribute whatever I can. Maybe a poem about a moon-bounce.

We just do what we do. Write poems. It is how we all met, everyone here, our common thread, so shut up Seattle and write a poem.

has anyone alerted Cordelia? It would be nice to see here in this. Dennis's tribute in Ange's thread was incredible. Maybe I will dig it out as another example.

MODERATORS: I am assuming that this has to be an unpublished piece, right?

Unpublished... I'm not sure. I was actually wondering about that myself since I have poetry already written. Ange, Lauren, what do you think should be the final word on us being in or out of the contest, and should all work be freshly written for the contest? I'm sure we can post previously written pieces to the non-contest thread.

hmmm I should have phrased the question differently....

I am assuming it is okay for the poem to have already appeared on literotica, right?

Most of the poets out there don't have dougesque poetry the way you and ange and I and few others may. So, maybe to make it completely fair, we should all start from scratch. But that's also up to A and L--wherever they may be. Where are you girls?

this is some chinese fire drill. :D

you girls are great.

I don't think the contest mods should participate, but I'll only hold myself to that. :)

I have about three books of Dougesque poetry already lol.

And Patrick, I love it when you call me a girl. Feminism notwithstanding.

Anyway, I've decided to be obsessed with Yeats this week, in honor of St. Paddy's day and all wonderful Irish men, but one in particular. ;)

I think it would be ok to submit a poem writ before the contest. Eve? Lauren?

Wait. Maybe not--then we'd have to do it for all contests.

I'm such a Gemini. Like Yeats.

I thought he called you a grill and thought that was odd.

Darn, I just found one I never put at lit and planned on editing. How much of it has to be new? Is it like finding a torn 20 dollar bill, more than 50%?

Oh and in our submission, should there be some brief reference as to the poem etc that sparked our inspiration?

I've entered contests in the past where the poet was allowed to enter a previously published poem. So, I'm okay with it. Though, the voters will know who the poem belongs to if it's already been on lit. Just thought of that...

I like being called a girl, too, but I have other names that I prefer to be called, though I won't go there now. I'm trying something new. Self-restraint. Oh, the pain.

Minor threadjack

I'll admit to it...if I get the sense that I'm older than a female, she's a girl. If we're about the same, woman (unless I know them well, then they might be girl anyways). And if it seems she's older than me, I fall back on lady.

You must have some clue as to what you just said. Don't you know that we'll now be very aware of what you're calling us? If you call me a lady, then I'll be wondering how freakin' old you think I am! Insane man... boy... uh... gentleman.

hehehe Yeah, I know...but, I'm talking third person here...if I call you lady when talking to you directly, it's more in the mode of milady...a background steeped in D&D and SCA will do that to a person ('course, some of you strike me as more wenches, but that's a topic for another time...in private...after I've gotten to actually know ya better) <G>

Crones fit in nowhere.

How about sex kitten? Is there an age limit on sex kitten?

Only the one the state sets for when she's legal to be played with... :D

OK, time to be assertive, again. :catroar:
  1. Only new and previously unposted poems can be submitted for the contest thread.
  2. Everyone is allowed to submit poems for the contest, but moderators will not be able to vote.
  3. Each person can only submit up to three poems for the contest thread.
  4. There will be a non-competitive thread, where everyone can post older poems, or pieces he or she does not wish to be part of the contest.
Any questions?

No, but thank you.

You're not a Gemini, are you?
