There may have been lots of people like me who had an entry but wanted to work on it today too and then send it in tonight.

For the Visually Inspired

I picked these up from the pic-a-thon thread.

Might be helpful to see some pics if anyone is stuck inspiration wise.

From what I understand there were more in a previous thread that were deleted. I know there are a lot of pictures out there. (Oh and illustrated poems too. I can delay getting work done even more if I go get those links too!)

If not searching for inspiration, check them out anyway, tres cool. Damn I miss this man's work, grrrrr! If death shows his face around here, I will smack it hard, that Bastard.

Absolutely, Pat!

The idea is definitely not to mimic smithpeter's style. The contest entries are your poetry, who you are, and that finding that personal voice was one of the things he stood for.

All we ask is for you to read his poetry in search of something that will spark your own poem: a sentiment, a concept, an image. All of a sudden, passionately. Let it rip.
Huh? Okay then, should I withdraw my three submissions???

ps: Why do so many people hijack threads, or at least post non-relevant posts? - and I hate to say it, but the "moderators" are among the worst offenders. :(

I think that it might be difficult (or undesirable) for some writers to do anything but echo his voice, it is very distinct.

I think what Pat and Lauren meant was that you don't HAVE to as it might be an uncomfortable fit.

Please don't withdraw them.. I cannot wait to read them, I love your poetry.

I think some threads are asking to be hijacked (ie monkey thread) but some that serve a specific purpose (ie this one) should be kept on target.

Especially ones like these, where people who might not have any interest at all in socializing, who just want to know what is going on in the contest and will not wade through to get to the relevant posts, and may just throw up their hands and leave. I know I am guilty of hijacking, but I also get annoyed.

You think there is any chance at all of getting this contest on the OPENING page like all the other contests on lit? There are many talented poets that are mainly story writers, that may not visit. There are many writers (and non-writers) who respected sp who might be interested.

I am going to be gutsy and put it up on the Awards and Contests thread if it is not there already.

I don't know, but I don't think there's a problem with you posting it, especially since Literotica is donating the prize.

Shit! Another week.

I think I sent my offering in yesterday. I'm too fucking old to have to wait another
week. If that is the deal, count me in. I don't like it but such is life.

And kitty mama will be out of sponsors. ;)

Question: I think I have my entry ready. Am I supposed to refer to which poem inspired me? Because it's several.

We've had entries that list up to three poems as inspiration, but if it's more I would just say something like inspired by several smithpeter poems. I suppose asking for a bibliography in a poetry contest is a bit much, eh?

:D

eek I guess I had better re-submit!

Only 3? Didn't you get my submission either??? :(

There's no single right way to acknowledge sp's poems, I guess. I didn't want Liar to have to list a whole bunch of poems--after all one could be influenced by reading 50 different poems, be inspired by them collectively rather than by one or a few. Certainly, no one is going to be disqualified if they didn't mention enough poems or mention them the right way or whatever.
