Valentines Day Contest Support Thread.

So they can't just bang? There has to be love and romance involved too?

Sounds complicated...

Love is lovelier when fucking someone else while thinking of your lover. Just so lovelier when the one fuck fucks better than your lover. It's still that same ole story, the fucking while thinking of another.
I'm sure it's pretty common for people to realise who they love when they're with people they don't love. There's the makings of a love story here.

I would agree, but it's also the making of a ritual sacrifice of you - the author - when you upset all the cult-like contest readers who came for one thing and then got served another. You'd have to do it perfectly or else we'd all have to attend your funeral. 😅 Best of luck.

I'm beginning to learn that I react to this kind of statement like a bull to a red flag. Seriously, I think it can be done.

Oooh, this would be perfect for that setup I postulated a few weeks ago, where two authors write the same story from two separate POVs.

I'm into this idea. I'm envisioning three sex scenes happening simultaneously: two are separate, with the wrong partners, and a third is a common fantasy two people are sharing, thinking of each other. Like they're fucking in some parallel dimension.

The only correlation is me, I love the 750 Word Challenge and I am hoping to be the organizer. (And I'm very loveable)
I shake my head over those 750-word stories. I've written a few, not many, but the comments always come back with things like, 'there isn't enough in this to make it worthwhile reading,' or 'too short.' These, along with others, point to the fact that readers don't understand the purpose of the 750 word, even if you tell them upfront about the Lit. minimum story length limit. [Not to mention, they score those lower.]

Get with the Times Honey is one I relished and wrote for the Nude Day Contest, but well, some didn't.

Although I did get a great comment from a noted writer on another story: Red Thonged Girl in the Elevator

by ElectricBlue on 06/21/2022

"Well, I hit you up with a five, DM, because the whole point of these little 750 word stories is their concise, precise observation; and this little piece has a ton of it.

Linda is perfectly portrayed, the attention to her clothing spot on, her cheeky red thong tantalising. A playful, knowing little tart!"

So, in my older age, I'm not inclined to write any more of those 'not worth reading' stories limited to 750 words.

But I might still read those because I get the intent. Have at it there, @Duleigh ]

You are absolutely right. Readers don't seem to appreciate them, or even understand the point of their existence.

However, as authors, I think that it is important that we challenge ourselves and break the mould of what is considered the norm every once in a while. Partly for our own advancements as writers, but also because otherwise we risk ending up with entire categories full of stories where if you deviate from the "supposed format" even slightly, you are instantly met with backlash. Some of that is happening already. :cautious:

I wrote one where a woman was was having a dream or vision and saw a couple fucking on a bed while there were two other spirit copies of herself, one was acting as tour guide. She could feel everything the woman felt on the bed and when her spirit selves started touching her, the woman on the bed felt the lesbian sex going on in the spirit realm. Two years later she found herself on the bed getting fucked the same way by the same man and she knew that her spirit selves were there in the room with her because she could feel their tongues and lips on her. It was a completely freaky scene.

I’m actually really excited about my submission. Usually I have such a hard time coming up with stories like these but I have a good one cooking upstairs!

I'm not eligible to win but I will be entering a story. I have a lot of silly things that happened in my life, and I'm feeling a need to collect them in a romantic comedy.

I'm in the same boat, but I will be submitting a story, because it is a wonderful event and even when you don't win, it gives your story great exposure to new readers.

Enchantress 8 is nearing the end, it's going to be my single biggest work, and will be the crown on the Enchantress Octalogy, my largest work (350k+ words) Then I can start working on this...

Damn you hindsight. I could've easily written Subway Ride as a vday story. I might think of something to submit. I really don't need another story, my backlog is growing again. Now I'm thinking of using characters from something I haven't even wrote yet... but I already am thinking of connecting that story with another I kinda started writing, anyway. I guess in a way it would help develop it. We'll see.

Newbie here with a question. What do you all guess would be an average length for a contest submission? I see some (winners, at least) well into the tens of thousands of words! That's a lot of writing!!! Maybe people start writing for these contests months in advance and I'm just late to the party. Thank you!!

It varies but lately it seems that longer stories do indeed seem to do well. My recommendation for a newbie is to write. Write what you want. Write for yourself. After time you will have a better idea of what categories are best for you and your skills will improve. Some contests have over 150 entries and unless you are a particularly gifted writer, your odds of winning are low. But contests are a great way to dip your toe in the pool and get exposure to more readers. Good luck. BTW, these have to be stand alone stories so you may not just add another in your Freya series.

I asked that question last week.
I have read all the rules and cannot find an answer to my questions, so...

Can I use characters that I have already developed in an ongoing series, write a stand-alone story (it will have a proper introduction to the characters, story arc, ending, and all of that) and then use that story at a later time as part of a second series of my own?

I'm new here and I would not want to break any Literotica community rules (implied or otherwise). Thank you!

The response I got:

Yes, by all means! Many authors (including me) use existing characters in an existing universe that they built, often with great success because they are familiar with the characters. Heads up - make sure you include proper exposition to explain to new readers who these characters are. Duleigh

So, now I'm not sure again! 🤷🏻‍♀️
