Day 9: A song that mentions or is about a murder

When I first heard this song I didn't really know what it was about, I just knew it was heartbreaking. I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts, and now I know it was inspired by this case. But read that at your own risk. It is one of the worst cases I've heard about. Senseless.

Day 9: A song that mentions or is about a murder

"Roland searched the continent for the man who'd done him in
He found him in Mombassa in a barroom drinking gin
Roland aimed his Thompson gun - he didn't say a word
But he blew Van Owen's body from there to Johannesburg"

Great album - I would have gone for the title cut though.

Day 9 -A song about or that mentions a murder.

Okay, well, this isn't a real murder like many of the ones posted here. Not that I couldn't have found options. And this only barely touches on the act in the first verse. But it's such a lovely glowing song that you don't feel its length through the ups and downs between chorus and verse. And, as apt for a Decemberists' tune, it tells a story.

One of the most beautiful people on Earth. Like, not even thirsting, it's just an objective fact. Gah. And that voice... She did these little "live from my kitchen" shows on instagram during lockdown and it's insane how she can keep a perfect tune with a bunch of rugrats trying to climb into frame and trip her.

That's a true fact. And those kitchen discos are on the fairly short list of good things that came out of that time.

I love the song, but that case is one of my main ones that I use to argue that abstracts like "good" and "evil" exist.
