Day 21: A Christmas song

I've been shuffling holiday music on and off all day and I finally found it.

Day 21: A Christmas song (Take 2)

I am using my November pass. @Biggalute brought up the Christmas Truce of 1914. After that, it came down from on high from both sides that there would be no more Christmas Truces. The armies did not agree, and they continued, sporadically, throughout the war. I love that.

Also, the thing that first drove the Truce? A song.

I love that too.

This is Garth Brooks take on it, singing about the truce in Bellau Wood in central France, near the Marne River. It is a wonderful song, but I chose it for one line:

"Heaven's not beyond the clouds, it's just beyond the fear."

And regardless of what you believe, that is a goal worth working towards.

"Bellau Wood," Garth Brooks.

Day 22: A song from the 60s

I've posted this before... but I don't mind.
It's beautiful, beautiful poetry, and I wish for everyone to glimpse Marc's soul

i come from a time where the burning of trees was a crime
i lived by the sea where to be was a thing of true joy
my people were fair and had sky in their hair
but now theyre content to wear stars on their brows

Marc Bolan's T.Rex - Frowning Atahuallpa

+1 for trees!

Day 21: A Christmas song

A beautiful version of a true Christmas hymn. The video telling the wonderful true story of British and German troops holding a truce on Christmas day 1914 and one of the German soldiers singing Stille Nacht (silent night).
The hymn is even more beautiful in the original German, I think.

Cashing in my two-fer. And this is a song that I’ve recently posted, but a different recording, and worth worth posting again.

Day 22: A song from the 60s

When Sunny gets blue
She breathes a sigh of sadness
Like the wind that stirs the trees
Wind that sets the leaves to swayin'
Like some violins are playin'
Weird and haunting melodies

When Sunny Gets Blue - Barbra Streisand (1967)

+1 for tree(s)

Day 22: A song from the 60s

Lilac Wine - Nina Simone

I lost myself on a cool damp night
Gave myself in that misty light
Was hypnotized by a strange delight
Under a lilac tree

I made wine from the lilac tree
Put my heart in its recipe

+1 for tree
