Day 21: A Christmas song

Modern Christmas songs tend to either be joyous or severely melancholy. This song starts in a headspace I understand far too well

"I made it through the year and I did not even collapse
Gotta say thank God for that
I'm torn between what keeps me whole and what tears me in half
I'll fall apart or stay intact

With tired eyes I stumble back to bed
I need to realize my sorry life's not hanging by a thread
At least not yet"

Last year was my first Christmas Eve alone.

"It always hurt to be all by myself this time of year
A cold and lonely Christmas eve
And living out my days alone
Well that had been my deepest fear
But you promised you won't leave"

But what I like is the song ends in a statement of faith and hope, and simple joy of friends.

Hope and joy. I can take that for Christmas.

"Merry Christmas, Here's to Many More," Reliant K

Day 21: A Christmas song

This Christmas song is a chance for you to see my wife, @Mrswonderer . She used to date a rock photographer, and he had some ties to early mtv. She said they did five or six takes and stitched it together but that it took all afternoon.

You can see that foxy ladyโ€™s 7 seconds of fame from 1:43 -1:50 (blonde in the upper left over Santaโ€™s arm).

Billy Squier - Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You

Hereโ€™s the full story. As a point of reference, she is 10 years older than I am and I was 14 in 1981. ๐ŸคชBob Leafe Photography.jpeg

Day 21: A Christmas song
This gives me chills
The story of this is amazing. It was based on the 22-day vigil of Vedran Smailoviฤ‡, a Bosnian musician who played his cello in the bombed out ruins of Sarajevo in honor of the dead of his city during the height of the attacks. He risked his life to bring something of life to so much death and destruction.

I originally heard this on Savatage's Dead Winter Dead concept album about love between a Christian and a Muslim during the war. It is one of their best. (TSO is Savatage's seasonal job). It is a powerful statement about faith and love in the face of hate and violence.

Day 21: A Christmas song

This has long been, and likely will always be my favourite Christmas song

Written by Greg Lake and Peter Sinfield, they couldn't agree on whether it was a pro or anti religious song. But I love it whatever, and that it celebrates the reality of Christmas for many, just like Fairytale of New York
