I have had several, and they were awesome. But I think a black cat crossing your path is a bad thing for the cat... poor things are hard to see in the dark and it's pretty easy to accidentally kick them across the room.

Yes, my kitty’s been kicked a couple times in the dark then I gotta chase her down to apologize. She’s a sweetie and very even tempered. We’ve had a number of black cats in our family too, and they’ve all been good cats.
