Comments That Make Your Day

Got this amazing feedback on my Summer Lovin 2024 story, Where the Strong Winds Blow:

Thank you so much for this incredibly sweet romance, which is also filled with well researched and very interesting information. I'm German, but I always loved The Netherlands, where I spent many a vacation with my parents and siblings during the late 1950's and the first half of the 1960's. Later, I also had a dutch business partner and visited with him and his family near Groningen. Your story (exceptional writing skills, btw!) evoked so many nice memories of people, beaches, canals, typical architecture, museums, dutch style paintings, food, and especially the language, which I also love! Thanks again! Hans

Always a great feeling. And when they make you their first follower too. I always want to send them a thank you, but you never know how it'd be received.
You could always send them a DM but not include your email address and also put a comment like, "I hope you don't mind me messaging you, but thanks for being my first follower. If I could be cheeky, please comment and let me and others know what you liked about my story, for your benefit and others."

On a similar note, I wish more readers would put finger to keyboard as I have a new story with over 3.5k Reads and 4.67/15 rating and only one comment (from my Beta reader). So I'm doing something right, but what I don't quite know! There again, I normally don't get many comments compared to some authors!!!

I've actually done that the times I'm the first follower of a reader, but there was only silence. So it's impossible to know if it's appreciated.

Yep, Lit readers are notorious for not commenting. For whatever reason. Readers will also not vote, even when they favorite the story! I've had dramatically greater feedback on other sites running the exact same story. Incredibly frustrating for those of us counting on reader feedback to improve their writing.

If a story really really hits home with readers, they will will comment. But it has to be absolutely exceptional. My latest story got 53 comments in the first 48 hours, so it must have done something right. Still not sure what.

I'm always a little leery to read anonymous comments, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one today. It was for my first story which was published over six years ago.

That was a wild story. And definitely hot. And way out there. Your first? Amazing!

I get lots of comments from married men on the street… things their wives wouldn’t like, naughty always makes my day 😈

That story is intentionally messed up, but somehow this reader managed to get past all the "horrible people doing horrible things to one another" content only to trip up on the only healthy, respectful interaction in the whole thing, and the presence of a public sex scene in, uh, the Exhibitionist/Voyeurism category.

A lot of the times feedback goes into Spam folders, and readers just won't think to look.

My editor is a commenter that I reached out to via feedback, but they didn't see it for about 3 weeks.

I've contacted a few regular commenters to thank them for their support and/or because they've left a really substantial comment. I've had some nice replies back.

One of the reasons why I'm making a point of commenting on everything I read these days.

You are surprised that a reader of a story in the E/V category chooses to focus on the E/V elements thereof? That doesn’t make sense to me at all. Most readers won’t leave comprehensive reviews of your work, they just comment on whatever stands out to them.

I think Bramble was referring to an E&V reader having a problem with a public sex scene. As in, why are they even reading the category then?

Since I didn’t read the story in question, I can only assume that perhaps it was the justification for the public scene occurring that didn’t sit well with this commenter, not necessarily the scene itself. Maybe it didn’t feel right in the context of overall plot, and that incongruity was what caught the reader’s attention and compelled him to comment?

I don’t know. I’m just trying to figure out how this piece of feedback could be useful to Bramble.

As a reader, I have started reading a series and have not looked to see the catergories of the later parts. If I had I would have not only missed many great stories but also not gained insights into BDSM (something with no real life interest) and much else that I have used in my stories. But even then I would not complain about anything happening that was flagged.

On the other hand TheLobster may be right, or possibly the reader thinks EV is somehting done in private with a deliberate or accidental audience.

On Well-Intentioned:

I disagree with your username, but modesty becomes you. You have talent in spades. Beyond that, you've got prosody and you can wield a semicolon. The best stories, you have reminded me, make us question what is right, what a situation means, who we are, who we want to be..... My best to you.

My summer story has had a lot of interest and even those rarest of things - comments!

A delightful story with dashes of naughtiness and a tasty mix of tension alongside enjoyable characters. Very nicely done.

Oh, I'm having a good day. Thank you @jackie43!

Probably the best story I've ever read on this website.

Five comments in the first 24 hours on Chapter Four of a Threequel series, Alistaire's Summer 4: More Beach feels pretty good to me! (Of course, I crave more...)
Four tell me I hit exactly the not terribly serious note I was looking for:
You stories are always as advertised. Plausibly ridiculous, a lot of fun, and smoking hot! Keep up the good work.
I’m just along for the ride.superb as always from you 5 laughing stars
Another excellent story. I was laughing so hard when the girls showed up at the beach house I could hardly breathe!!
Your sense of timing always gets me.
Great fun as usual! I was a bit thrown by one line {Deleted portion about Irving, who I hope did not confuse anyone else, and is irrelevant anyway}
I also feel that the nude harem needed to happen, with each woman described again in loving detail so that we can keep it all straight. Who’s with me on this?
No nude harem for you. It is a Chekov's Tease.

But the fifth comment, in a mild gripe, actually points out the problem I felt with resuming the Alistaire series. I hope he keeps reading to see how and if I settle the issue.
4/5 overall

I have not commented on this series - maybe I am just too old for this story, where sex is jusr part of friendship or simply having a good time, with little too none emotional connectivity (I.e. frequent assertions about no-territoriality from MC, Poppy ona beach). At the same time numerous aspect of the story indicate relationships development, feels like inconsistency. Harem stories are fun - they usually refer to a group (with central male) with relationships between group members. Casual everybody fucks everybody series of encounters may be ok for a short story but I find boring in linger ones.

Still, it's a solid 4/5, I find it well above literotica average. Just not 5/5.

And it is NOT a harem story. It is a multiple partners story. Alistaire does NOT have a harem. Just ask him.
