Comments That Make Your Day

I got an email from someone who read my story Love Brewing On The South Shore for the Summer Lovin' Contest, saying that it moved them to tears and was the best story they had read on the site to date.

Whether or not any of that is really true is up for the debate since the email was a bit over-the-top in terms of words. However, if even 10% of what that message said was true, then I'm extremely happy with just that.

Readers are not one-size-fits-all.

If they went to the trouble of commenting, accept the compliment at face value. For that reader at that time, it is probably true.

You won't get many of these so enjoy the hell out of it when you can.

Some nice comments this morning:

Buckshot Ranch:

One of the few stories I couldn't put down til I finished it. Great story, so well written, absolutely loved it.

Lovely story and a great concept.
Near the end it seemed some bits were missing. Why are there a bunch of Old Ones at the wedding? Was it because Julie met Marta? Or did the Old Ones just know? It would be nice to flesh out that connection more.

There's opportunity for sequels here, and I'm hoping you'll create some.

Heredity: Was written for a 750-word event.

Oh, this is neat. Very different but somehow a bit like "The weapons shop of Isher" by A. E. van Vogt, a famous SF writer of the 1940s or thereabouts.

@mrs_mackenzie read and rated Rulk the Rat and the Demon Dagger and left the following comment:
I liked this, even though I didn't want to, which is exactly what this story wanted me to do (wait, am I under the influence of the demon dagger...?)

Really enjoyable read and the world, especially the ghouls, drew me in. 5*, great writing.
Thanks, much appreciated! I've been thinking about setting other stories in the same City.

@oneagainst thank you. Yes, I know, readers here are just looking for the input to a quick masturbation and no one has time to reflect.
But someone (maybe, you?) had once written that readers of “Loving Wives” are often cheated husbands, looking inside the novels for an explanation of what happened to them in real life.
I didn't want to bother you with my comments, and I don't want to ask you to change your magnificent prose or the projects you have already tacked on.
I just wanted to clarify to myself that perhaps (maybe) a small percentage of readers read stories of FLR and forced male chastity because they actually experience that situation (with safe words, spare keys, etc.), but perhaps a large majority just fantasize about an extreme situation that somehow cathartically exorcises what they fail to express, but which happens in the real life of every monogamous husband stuck in a Dead Bedroom Marriage (and to think about it: if a man fucked his wife ten times a day, why would he continually consult an erotic website? ). Also this eagerness to worship the wife on a pedestal as if she were a gorgeous Goddess ()... and to imagine that the wife is able to attract tall, muscular young Bulls... . But I agree that talking about menopause and declining desire on an Erotica site is like trying to sell refrigerators to Eskimos.
I am very slowly reading your narrative. I think I sensed something deep echoing inside me, and perhaps the only way to express it on the site is precisely in humorous form: saying something seriously, masquerading as a joke. We'll see if I'll be able to. I will leave a comment now and then, but it is never controversial, believe me. I just hope to help another poor and naive reader like me, to better understand why he/she reads precisely stories of forced chastity and not great fucks with gallons of semen ejaculated from equine penises.
This is actually a serious point: the wondering as to why anyone reads erotica, beyond the obvious utility of the stroker story. Without dragging others into this thread, I've had similar conversations with other people about the deep underlying mechanics that drive a lot of the "better" stories. How they land with readers is at least as much a function of the deeply held psychological marks they hit as any of the words that are used. It's fascinating what makes people tick, and therefore what you can target with a specific story. I've referred to it before as knowing how to turn the knife, esp. in noncon, bdsm, fetish, loving wives categories, because you're targetting the thing beneath the surface of the story.

That said, you're right that sometimes the only way to express any of this is in satire. A Place For Us All To Belong is my latest project in that vein... two FMCs wreaking havoc as they pass through the standard tropes. Next chapter is Femdom on Saturday with Ch 8, Maledom with Tentacles in Ch 9. All good fun, but the ultimate ending is hopefully going to hit hard.

Another one on "Rulk the Rat", left by @joy_of_cooking earlier today:
I was surprised by how merciful the widow queen was. Nice foreshadowing with the ghouls. The rat was sweet.
I don't think she's merciful. She lets Rulk live because as long as he's suffering, it lessens Gienna's suffering. Maybe I should have spelled that out more explicitly.

Anyway, if an actual rat is the nicest character in the story, I think I achieved what I set out to do. Thanks!

Some comments over the past couple of days:

Homeless

Your stories are too good! What am I going to do in two days time when I have read them all?

Wheelchair Girl

Five stars from me also! There are no star buttons to press. Thank-you for this wonderful story

WOW!! What an absolutely brilliant story, made even better by the exceptional standard of writing. Only found your stories yesterday so went on to read this one.
Thank you so much.

Cheatify The Bitch

Excellent BTB!!! 5 Stars!!!

Cheatify The Bastard

Awesome BTB/Revenge story!!! Saddletramp would be proud...

Buckshot Ranch

Extremely well written. A deserving winner.

You did, but the way the widows were introduced made me expect way, way more payback. Dockside gangs aren't usually big on proportionate responses.

I got, this one for Finding Home from Uze2B which really made me smile.
I am a long time reader here. I am not anywhere talented enough to try and contribute. However, that doesn't mean I am unable to recognize a well crafted story when I read it. It is one thing to make a hit story once, but, to do it consistently is rare. dreamcloud, rwstewerd, Androgenousother, MsCherylTerrra are some of those I think do (at least for me). Your romance stories are in this same level. Thank you for the time and creativity!

@Djmac1031 left this on Rulk the Rat:
We discussed unlikable characters as the lead in the forum of course. I think you handled Rulk well. You give us enough background and world building to explain the harsh conditions that would lead someone to be this despicable, but of course not excuse his actions.
I'm sure many readers might have expected a more brutal yet finite punishment, but I think the drawn out suffering is more appropriate given his crimes.
Good job, enjoyed the story. You could have some fun expanding this world in future stories for sure.
Thanks! "Explain, don't excuse" was definitely what I was going for.

I think many readers come (no pun intended) or rather find this site looking for a quick turn on. Some get interested in stories that have more narrative. Then make an account so they can follow authors and end up reading stories that could, and do, work even if all the sex happened behind closed doors. That was part of my journey and here I am writing. Interestingly, or not, my early stories were much heavier of the sex and now the plot is much more important.

I think we all go through this journey. And, I think we discover a new audience when we do it. Writing, it takes a while to build up the courage to drop a chapter with no actual sex given how Lit is. But, boy it makes for a better story

Meant to get back to you on this earlier in the Unlikable Characters post as well.

I also thought you handled the Non Con portion tastefully. I'm gennerally not a fan, BUT I'm okay with it in a story as long as it's not glorified. And I think you did a good job of NOT glorifying it while still maintaining LEs standards on the subject.

A couple of nice comments on Buckshot Ranch: One is very thoughtful. I don't disagree with it but think I could write around the problem.

What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing it with us.

It's just a thought but maybe leave this one as a stand alone that ended on a high note ? The timing of the reveal about Julie's special abilities was just a bit too much, a bit too soon. It would be hard to do a follow up and still maintain the suspension of disbelief that allows the reader to get immersed in the tale.

Sometimes it's the little things in an otherwise ordinary life that make the magic.

Amazing and wonderful. Five stars for certain. ⭐🌟 💫 🌟 ⭐

Some nice comments this afternoon on Buckshot Ranch:

Thee BEST romantic western I have ever read!

Loved it. And in that possible next episode might there be a certain ex-deputy looking for some revenge?
Ah, yes. The X-deputy coming for revenge. I cut a few scenes out to tighten things up and that was one. It would go into a sequel.

Fantastic read. Superbly written.

Amazing story, I loved every bit of it.

I got a private comment sent to.me telling me they think my work will eventually make the HoF for interracial stories.

A nice thought and vote of confidence.

Got two comments today that were very gratifying. Both by Anonymous.

One on The Art of Reconstruction:

An utterly brilliant piece of writing. Such an interestingly perverse group of characters who had some wildly varied kinks that all sounded like a good time. I can’t remember when I have gotten so lost in a story that I hoped it would never end. Thank you for a marvelous creation. 5/5

The other on Living up to the Legacy:

I had to stop reading constantly from crying. I couldn’t see the IPad, I had a snot river flowing down my blouse and everything was so drenched with tears that I had to get another box of tissues although I was considering getting a mop. I don’t know how you could see to type this story. I think I cried more reading this wonderful story than I have ever cried reading anything else. The memories this brought up were/are soul crushing. You are one hell of an author.
