When the paladin had made the suggestion to go back to the top of the cave, Perrin did as he was told. He was best when following orders , not questioning them. He got back to the top , just in time to see a new person enter the fray with his sword drawn. Perrin got ready to climb back down again, but a look and a nod from Jeselynn kept him up on the ledge. He looked behind him for more hobgoblins. With none in sight, Perrin turned to watch the stranger approach.
Halia busied herself , checking out the hobgovlins for signs of tribal affiliation. If she knew what tribe they were from, then she would have an idea of their strength. She saw the badge of the Dwarfdevourers, a medium strength band, normally with around 30 members. Four of them had been thrown down by Perrin, and five others looked to be the handiwork of Edge. That only left 21 left. Only, sheesh , that is alot of them, but we need to get to Edge and rescue him.
Halia presents the badge to Jeselynn and gives her information just as the Paladine finds a stranger lurking in the trees. She sees this stranger draw his sword as he comes closer. Halia quietly skirts to the edge of the cave mouth looking to find a way to flank the stranger.
Nodding Tanthalas frowned. " Was it hobgoblins by chance that attacked him? I have been tracking a group of them for the last several weeks and they have appeared to come here to this cave. More then likely they use this place as they are passing through this area. As for your companion, IF he is still alive then we must reach him quickly before the hobgoblins make a stew out of him..."..
Perrin shouted down that it was all clear on the top of the cave. He gripped the rock face and scuttled down. He drew his axe and moved closer to Jeselynn. This stranger sounded sincere , but it was not Perrins place to make a decision if this man could join them in saving Edge.
Hearing the strangers words, Halia stopped trying to flank the man. She listened intently to his words. " Jeselynn, he is right. We need to get to Edge now, before its too late. I say we trust him, I am sure Perrin agrees. We need to get to Edge before his is killed. Please, lets go. "
Glancing over he finally noticed the woman. Hmm he was getting a bit slow if he was letting people sneak past him this easy. He glanced at the cave entrance then at the travelers. " I am afraid that I do not know why you are here but for that matter I do not care. My only goal is to stop the hobgoblins. This I will attmept to do with or with out you."
With that he begain walking towards the cave again, not bothirg with a torch since he would be able to see in there as well with out one. He did not truly care if they went in with him or not, it was his self appointed duty to rid the land of all evil creatures and if they did not wish to aid him so be it...
The High Priest of the temple, an ancient gold dragon named Braxas, calls me to the hall of legends. I enter the hall hoping I have not been remiss in my duties of late.
"A party will come here seeking help concerning an artifact of our religion. Help them in any way you can, but do not betray any secrets of this temple to them" he commands me.
"I will not fail you O Great Braxas" I reply to him as I bow before him .
I turn and leave the hall and head for my chamber. I will need to see who these strangers are. I still have my powers as a wizard, and I see I will still need them,
As Tanthalas stepped into the cave he stopped to let his eyes adjust. As he stood there he heard footsteps behind him. Turning slightly he noticed a elfish woman walking towards the cave with the rest of them either folling close behind or getting ready to follow her. She must be rather important, he thought to himself. "I see you have decided to aid me, or should I say I have decided to aid you all. Your friend that is with the hobgoblins, is he a strong person? Other wise I am sure that they have killed him by now." Thinking back he shudders remembering some of the other tribe's of hobgoblins he had followed before and what they had done to those they captured.
" Ah how rude of me though. My name is Tanthalas. Some call me The Hunter or Silver Death. " Chuckling to himself he went on, " but most just call me Tan." Waiting for them, he pulled his fathers sword just incase a hobgoblin party came upon them at the entrance.....
Arciris This sould have been before the one above just missed out
" Then it seams we are united by deed, Friend you need not go alone if you help us rescue our companion, then I for one, will help in the extermination of these creatures. Evil will fall to the righteous blade, By Sul I swear it."
Tapping hand to hilt to seal the oath, I held out my hand in greeting.
" Our Lady mage and leader is Jeselynn, This is Halia and my tall friend here is Perrin. My name is Arciris and our missing companion is Edge."
After The introductions where over we all followed Tanthalas in the cave.
" Can your magic sense if he still lives?. I have limited skill at tracking but the amount of blood we found outside worries me. My healing only extents to small wounds."
" I fear that my magic is very limited but I am a superb tracker." Crouching down he checks the floor for tracks. " Hmm it appears that there is about 20 of them, give or take 3 or 4." Looking closer he frowns. "And it also appears they was dragging something. I'm not sure if it was your friend or not though." Standing up he looks back at the group. " I'd advise we move quickly before they have a greater chance of loseing us and harming your friend futher then they may already have."...
Perrin brings up the rear of the party. He is most comfortable being in front to take the brunt of the assault but in this case, they need the tracker in front to lead the way. Also, in his experiences, Hobgoblins are tricky and would like nothing better then to attack the party from the rear. Pushing Halia in front of him, Perrin ducks his head slightly as they enter the tunnel.
Seeing that Jeselynn is allowing this man to join the group, Halia pulls out her weapons. They were a comfort to her in dangerous times. They were the best companions she ever had, never left in the middle of a fight or gave up. She pysched herself up for battle, the life of their friend was in the balance. She looked over at Perrin, seeing that he was doing the same. She jumped into the tunnel ahead of Perrin, readying herself for what was to come.
Tanthalas begain walking through the cave, stopping every five feet or so to check the ground he continued on a good twenty feet before he stopped suddely raising his hand fo silence. Crouching down he checked the ground several times. Then looking up towards the way they had been heading he frowned. Hmm there was only the tracks of ten hobgoblins now and there was no sign of them dragging anything. There must of been a hidden door along this tunnel somewhere between where he had last checked and here. Walking back he begain checking the walls to see if he could find it....
Perrin's sense of smell was betraying him with them all cramped together in this little passage. He looked over the others and saw that the tracker was coming back this way with a worried expression on his face. Perrin concentrated his senses and detected some movement in the wall a few paces behind him. He quickly moved back in time for the wall to open inward and for a hobgoblin to peek its head out. Perrin raised the axe above his head and brought it down towards the hobgoblins noggin.
After my eyes adjusted to the gloom, I found I could see fairly well due to large illumines mineral deposits embedded with the walls. Tanthalas followed the trail deep into the caves before stopping, turning around looking closely at the walls. After seeing him tap at the walls I began to expect he might be looking for a secret door. As the tracker passed by I thought I heard movement ahead. Sword extended I moved to the fore.
There was commotion behind me, someone yelled a warning. Half turning I caught a flash of light in the tunnel before me
" ENEMY TO THE FRONT!."
Tanthalas noticed a hidden door open up just ahead of him. He watched as the man that was called Perrin swung his axe down towards the hobgoblins head. He had been right, there was indeed a hidden door. Begaining to head towards it his sword drwan he heard a shout behind him. " ENEMY TO THE FRONT!."
Turning back towards the way they had come he was sure the large man with the axe would be able to handle himself. Dropping his axe he unslung his bow and nocked a arrow. Aiming at the lead hobgoblin that was rushing down the tunnel at them he let it fly.......
Opening a pouch quickly, I pulled out a handful of a silver dust. throwing it towards our attackers, I chanted and it flared up in a massive fireball..
holding my hand infront of my fingers poined together, forming almost a ball I chanted and pulled my fingers apart electrict sparked from the ends and I directed it towards the next hobgoblin...
The tunnel narrowed enough that only two could come at a time, staying to the left and giving my sword arm more room, the first Hobgoblin moved in swinging low while another tried to skewer me on the end of a spear. bring my sword up and to the left, deflected the blade while I sidestepped to avoid the spear. My return swing gutted the spear wielder, continuing to parry
another thrust of the Hobgoblins sword. An arrow thudded between his eyes, and he fell back.
More came on, only too erupt in fire as flames consumed them. Sparks flew and arrows zoomed passed me, Two hobgoblin managed to survive the wave. The one on the right bore a spiked Cudgel, the other a flail which whipped out catching my sword. Using all my strength I pulled him towards me catching his throat in one hand. Dropping sword I seized the 190 pound hobgoblin by the groin launching him head first. He struck the other full force sending them both flying down the tunnel. Hearing more coming I asked
" If there is another way through . I think we will soon be overrun."
Letting loose a scream of agony and dropping to my knee, I grab the back of my skull and wait for the pain to pass.
Perrin trys to help me stand, and once i'm to my feet, the pain seems to get worse.. I slump back to the ground and start shivering...
the pain seemed to subside almost completely and I could think straight. 'I think they have a witch doctor, Shaman or something... ' i spoke
'We must hurry, his power is pretty strong to be able to attack me, and we must stop him.. another blow like that and I will not be able to keep going. ' i went on.. standing again, I could feel the sharp fingers of magic reaching for my mind.
'we have to go now.' summoning all my power I located a weakness in the tunnel wall and let a earthquake spell make an opening .. it reveiled a second tunnle parrell to ours..
I masked my mind and any sign of my presence. 'i think we might be able to find our friend this way.'
His axe swinging through the air like a scythe, Perrin cleaves the Hobgolins head into two pieces. He quickly wipes off the excess from his blade as three more follow the other. Perrin turns his axe sideways and grabs the handle and rushes towards two of the hobgoblins. His sideways turned axe pins the two of them against the wall. The impact with the hard stone wall caved in the skull of one of the hobgoblins, while the other was merely knocked out. Perrin turned his axe the other way to finish the job.
Halia sees the hobgoblins exit that hidden door and engage the big man. She sees that the last hobgoblin out the door has edged around Perrin and is preparing to strike at his unprotected back. Halia reaches out with her sword and skewers the hobgoblin to the hilt on her sword. Levering the hobgoblin to the ground, Halia plants her boot on it to get her sword back out. She grins over at Perrin, basking in the violence of the conflict.
Perrin uses the sharp edge of the blade to slice the hobgoblins throat. He turns in time to see Halia run the hobgoblin through with his sword. He smiles at Halia and is about to thank her when he sees Jeselynn hit the floor. Perrin helps her to her feet and listens to her talk about Witch Doctors. Nodding his head in ascent, Perrin again takes up the rear so they can move on further in the new tunnel.
I wander about the temple here in the mountains. The temple, more like a city within the mountain, has the beauty of elvish workmanship and the precision of dwarvish workmanship. It is, however, neither. The entrance is similar many other temples in design, but there are no markings to identify it as a temple as such. The temple is more a storehouse of information of the legends of the dragons, both good and evil. This place is considered neutral ground for dragons, and none will dare to break that unwritten law. Inside the mountain are various chambers, most are for storing tomes of knowledge and relics of the past. There is one chamber that is immense in size, it is so large that an entire human city could fit inside. This chamber is for the Great Council of Dragons to meet in undisturbed. All of the members of the council are ancient dragons of every type and color. They meet here to discuus the happenings of the world.
