I'll echo everyone's sentiments!

On this day, we honor those who fell, and those who continued to fight for victory, and our freedom, through the years.

Thank you, and God bless you!

Lynnette, I'm glad you started this thread. I was about to if I didn't find one:rose:

It seems so simple...but the words mean a lot....

Thank You

Remebering

It was my pleasure
to have known you all, and I am to the better for having met you.
Sixteen Draftees who did not want to go but did.

Chuck, Bob, Tallman and Head Hunter never set foot on USA soil again, but became a part of it.

Rat, Johnny Walker, Tom died within three years of returning.

Shorty, Yoyo, Sam, Lawman, Preacher, Fish, Leon, Chuckie all died off over the years from various cancers. Thursday December 20, 2001, Soul Man danced his last step.

And then there was one, I owed my life to these Gentlemen more then once. We laughed, loved, lived and died with each other, yet those were some of the most glorious times of my life. Each one of these soldiers was killed in Viet Nam, some just didn't realize it till the cancer set in.

To you Gentleman I lift this glass in a toast. I loved you all and you are sorely missed, God Rest their souls, they spent their time in Hell.

"Here I am send me"

"Thanks to all who were proud to serve for us and never came home...and thanks to those who are now standing on that front line for us..":rose:

Thanks to my son who is a wonderful person and SSgt. in the Air Force..you make us proud .

"If you don't stand behind our troops.....please feel free to stand in front of them."

So many thoughts today of those who have served (and those who do serve our country now). Out of a nation filled with extraordinary people, these were the best of the best. They were humble, ordinary men, and women who not only gave the ultimate sacrifice, but they lived lives that were sacrificial. Every day they gave to their country. There is no way that we can know the extremes, the agonies that they endured on our behalf, but to know that they DID, is and should, be the most humbling thing for us all. Whatever anyones thoughts may be about the war, or the government, or the politics of it all, the fact remains that those men and women DESERVE to be thanked for being there for us, for standing between us and those who would harm us. And for being there for us in times of peace, as well. Our military is legendary for their compassion towards civilians in times of war, and on peacekeeping missions as
well. We should all take a minute to think of what kind of land we'd be living in if they hadn't been there for us.

A Soldier's Poem

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
Telling stories of the past.
Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.
And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew where of he spoke.
But we'll hear his tales no longer,
For ol' Bob has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer
For a soldier died today.
He won't be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary,
Very quiet sort of life.
He held a job and raised a family,
Going quietly on his way;
And the world won't note his passing,
'tho a Soldier died today.
When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.
Papers tell of their life stories
From the time that they were young,
But the passing of a soldier
Goes unnoticed, and unsung.
Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
And cons his fellow man.
Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his Country
And offers up his life?
The politician's stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.
While the ordinary soldier,
Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
And perhaps a pension, small.
It's so easy to forget them,
For it is so many times
that our Bobs and Jims and Johnnys,
Went to battle, but we still pine.
It was not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our Country now enjoys.
Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
With his ever waffling stand.
Or would you want a Soldier,
His home, his country, his kin,
Just a common Soldier,
Who would fight until the end.
He was just a common Soldier,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his like again.
For when countries are in conflict,
We find the Soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles
That the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days.
Perhaps just a simple headline
in the paper that might say:

"OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

Please someone explain to me why is HAPPYMemorial Day..is it not to HONOR those who have fallen in service to this country or died risking thieir lives to save others....We seem to lose our sence of what the holiday is about as we suck down a beer while gorging our BBQs dinners...sorry maybe I am one GI who still feels a loss of friends that parished around me in combat, but I feel a it honor to keep those who are gone remembered...Oh by the way did you invite a soldier, sailor or marine to enjoy that BBQ with you...

HONOR MEMORIAL DAY

Thank you for allowing me the the use of the soapbox...

HONOR MEMORIAL DAY

Thank you for allowing me the the use of the soapbox...

My Dad is retired Air Force and my uncle was in the National Guard. They were at our BBQ. Thankfully we live in a country where we are free to celebrate Memorial Day the way we choose to. Some, like you may choose to honor those we have lost, while others may choose to honor the ones who survived. I really don't think there is a set rule. I personally think we should honor these men and women every day. And thanks to those who parished as well as those who survive(d), we have that right.

Thanks for stopping by LustfulOne...anyone who has served their country is welcome here.
