I'm so old I remember when cars didn't come with air conditioning, but you could buy it as an option. It was a big, clunky thing that hung under the dash.

I'm pretty sure mine was $0.10 (dimes to make a call). We needed quarters just in case it went over a certain time limit (3 minutes??) or it was a toll call.

I remember the Helms Bakery truck rolling through our neighborhood - probably just a Cali thing. Sometimes my mom would send me out to get a loaf of bread for around twenty cents. I would save my paper route money for one of their huge cream puffs. It's sad that they are gone now (over in 1969).
