An FYI for those that know him and miss him:

I don't have all the email addresses and I wanted to make sure everyone knew:

On 7/30/2008, many of us got a message from Techsan’s email telling us of his untimely death. Hold onto your hats, kids.

I got a message from him yesterday. No, it wasn’t a séance. Our dear Ed is still with us.

For those of you who think it was all a cruel trick, let me assure you, he wasn’t faking his death. He was quite gone for a time. His illness continues and he struggles every day.

This is what happened, in his own words:

It was not my intent to stop editing but ... quite unexpectedly I became hospitalized. At one time the doctors could not revive me and told my wife there was no hope…

I can only imagine what the poor woman must have been going through. He went on to say that she went home that night completely anguished and began making phone calls. After calling the family and starting funeral arrangements, she opened his inbox and sent out the emails that we received.

But our Ed is a fighter. I’ve always said that some doctors give up too easily. He rallied, fought hard and managed to find his way back to the world of the living. After that, he spent what he called “nine miserable months” in three different hospitals before he was finally allowed to go home.

To say he is still having difficulty would be an understatement. As he said, he won’t be going back to editing any time soon. At present, he has only one hand for typing and it causes him pain.

Techsan asked me to send this information to you because he lost all his email contacts in the two years he’s been fighting to return to us. His worst fear right now is that he has disappointed everyone. If you’re like me, you’re grinning ear to ear knowing that our dear friend is still with us. I, for one, will cherish all he gives and be thankful.

One day the Pope came to Washington for a visit.

Being the gentlemen that he is; President Obama took the Pope for a cruise
down the Potomac on the presidential yacht.

While they were sitting and chatting on deck, the wind blew the Pope’s high
hat off and into the water.

Being the gentleman that he is; Mr. Obama quickly hopped overboard; tip-toed
across the water and retrieved the hat.

He tip-toed back across the water, climbed aboard the yacht and placed the
hat back on the Pope’s head.

The Pope thanked the President and they sailed on.

The headlines in the papers the next day read:

“Obama Can’t Swim!’’

I didn't think he was dead. If the name that I had was correct, it didn't appear in the SS Death Index so he was still with us. Tell him that we miss him dearly and will keep him in our thoughts and prayers.

the trouble with honesty

Our teacher asked us what our favorite animal was, and I said, "Fried chicken." She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right, everyone else in the class laughed.

My parents told me to always be truthful and honest, and I am. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals very much. I do, too. Especially chicken, pork and beef.

Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal's office. I told him what happened, and he laughed too. Then he told me not to do it again.

The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, just like she'd asked the other children. So I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principal's office again. He laughed, and told me not to do it again.

I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked us to tell her what famous person we admire most.

I told her, "Colonel Sanders".

Senior Week

While on a road trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside restaurant
for lunch. After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant, and
resumed their trip. When leaving, the elderly woman unknowingly left her
glasses on the table, and she didn't miss them until they had been
driving for about forty minutes. By then, to add to the aggravation,
they had to travel quite a distance before they could find a place to
turn around, in order to return to the restaurant to retrieve her
glasses.

All the way back, the elderly husband became the classic grouchy old
man. He fussed and complained, and scolded his wife relentlessly during
the entire return drive. The more he chided her, the more agitated he
became. He just wouldn't let up for a single minute. To her relief,
they finally arrived at the restaurant. As the woman got out of the car,
and hurried inside to retrieve her glasses, the old geezer yelled to her,
"While you're in there, you might as well get my hat and the credit card".
