Hmmm Bobby and Laurie..... I actually met Bobby in the 80's (not that I knew his music....was too young ) , he was living with my sister near Coffs Harbour (Bellingen) in what you would call a hippy induced state.... doing voice overs and commercials when he needed money! He is still around and keeps in contact with niece etc.

Mate of mine went to tech school with "Shirley" Strauchan... they were both carpentry apprentices....Darby remembers him failing the course quite badly...clown of the class, though. Ironic he should end up presenting on a DIY show.

I have no idea but it's what we used then hence the term....and ouch for Sherbet....ewwwwwwwww only went for Skyhooks but the girls liked Sherbet!

Yeah..and then the littler girls got right into the Bay City Rollers....a nightmare from the teachers point of view...all these grade 3 & 4 girls fighting over who was going to have which, who was the cutest, who had the nicest tartan....auuurrrrghhhhhh makes me cringe just to think of it!

I loved the 70's though, there was some great and weird bands in those days. Remember Split Enz in the early days or maybe Adam Ant for the weird?

Loved the early Splitties stuff.....and, of course, have a copy of True Colours (original vinyl) as well as a number of other albums. Adam Ant....he was priceless.....so glam pirate......

Never did take to the later stuff that the Finn boys got into (not that one could call them boys any longer....53 and 47, these days I believe)...the band member from Enz who appealed to me most was Noel Crombie...his whole demeanour spoke volumes.....

A dvd I got recently you may want to have a look at: Cotton, Keays and Morris, Live at the Basement. Cotton (Zoot), Keays (Masters Apprentices) and Morris (as in Russell - The real thing etc.) They are still so professional even today and a great sound with all those old songs playing together.

The mid 70's were a very interesting time for TV in Aus ...Countdown.....whole new batch of quiz shows....then later we got things like Skyways..... Prisoner.... Neighbours, of course.... The Sullivans.... Matlock Police etc etc


.....and if it makes you feel younger still, Batty, Australia was instrumental in the worldwide Abba phenomenon getting started... Molly pushed them on Countdown and suddenly you couldn't move for Abba.....

now that was a bit too long ago to be remembering too accurately I think......might be giving away just how many years are under this particular belt if I go on much more...

i remember the whole abba thing-and dont tell anyone but i am still an abba fan. i also still tune in to rage on channel 2 during january when they sometimes play repeats of countdown and rock arena. i was re-watching prisoner until it finished on uktv(funny place for an aussie show) last year. cop shop was one of my favourite shows in the early 80's-parents would never let me watch it but i spent some time away from them (apparently i was an "uncontrolable child") at that time so got hooked then. i remember neighbours starting on channel 7 before they decided it was a dud and 10 bought it. i had left home by then-i was 17 if i remember right. of course early 80's was the start of sale of the century with tony barber and victoria nicholls-was a great show before they started playing with it thru the years. late 70's and early 80's were interesting for imported tv shows as well-trash like knight rider, the fall guy, buck rogers, the a team, hart to hart, battlestar galactica, the list goes on. all were pretty much crap-and i loved them all-and still do. maybe one day i'll grow up

you cant go into 70's and 80's music without mentioning a few notables of the era-kiss, acdc, zz top, bananarama, blondie, believe me i could go on for hours, genisis, wings, van halen, pink floyd, culture club, queen, duran duran, human league- it's a hell of a list and i haven't even mentioned solo artists
in australia we of course had psuedo echo, kids in the kitchen, dear enemy, electric pandas, australian crawl, icehouse, inxs, angels and of course the immortal cold chisel. again i could go on for hours and again no solo artists.
what about one hit wonders? the absolutly horrible shut upa you face from joe dolce. the equally bad dont worry be happy from bobby mcferrin. toni basil's mickey. surviver's eye of the tiger. promises baby it's you (remember the tits on her!!!*drools*) counting the beat from the swingers. and remember at this stage technically pink floyd was a one hit wonder-although they had sold millions of albums and dark side of the moon had been on the charts for over 10 years, their only single release at the time had been another brick in the wall. we have only scratched the surface here-but i haven't ever seen this much action on this thread before!

i actually remember zoot-pink suits and all. they had a fantastic version of the beatles elenor rigby. if memory serves me i think rick springfield was with them as well as daryl cotton

I remember those ghastly pink suits as well.....and the pants that were so tight it looked like they were laminated on!

Saw Russell Morris live back in my college days....at the time The Real Thing was a hit.....incredible performance....must have a look at this DVD you're talking about, Scummie...could be good for a bit of a nostalgia trip...I think my drink of choice was brandy and dry in those days...so I will have to crack out a bottle or two and sit back and relive my formative years.
