My Safe Place Thread

It is probably warm enough for soybeans to germinate, but I will not sow until the second week in May

That was fast.

Damned if a soybean sprout didn't just pop out of the ground !

please note: i do not like the following words and would appreciate restraint in my safe place: photograph, elevator, clown, rubbish, garage, Australia, banana, emoji, and snuggle.

This sucks. I'm 5'6 1/2".

I suggest you either slouch or...

Take a quick photograph as proof you were really here, run past the rubbish bins for the elevator and book a quick flight to Australia where you can snuggle with a clown while eating bananas and sending emojii's from out in the garage.

Or find a dark corner to hide in quietly.

Back into the shadows I go...

Beans are resilient and they love water, especially those in my just sown fields. Now if we just get some sun next week, I will be on my way to only losing a few thousand dollars instead of many thousands. Isn't farming wonderful?

Other than this brief crop report, I have nothing to add to the invigorating and intellectually stimulating discussions currently progressing all across this site.

Indeed so! Expensive as a hobby and worse as a career.

What variety of beans?

It would seem you are in perfect company, then.

Horticulture...

Good topic for this thread.

I wish I was free to tell the story about a beautiful Prairie Lily?

I do not think this will assuage your quest for information, but the bean I planted is P31T02L. Are we excited yet?

It's an answer so to that end it matters about the same as any other answer would. Very exciting, yes.

So, just the one kind then?

Yes, in the fields just the one kind. That is the only way to contract it without dividing the field beyond my standard divisions - fallow/hay, corn, soy. I just use the soy seed that the Pioneer sales rep recommends, same with the corn.

You may tell. I have a new one of the type you had (have?) and have subdivided it into several new bulbs which I hope will reach maturity in another 2 years.

Thank you.

The lilac odour in the back garden was too strong... I needed a Lit break.

Lily story to follow, soon.

Watch this space. 😜

I suppose in the circumstances there is no reason to be concerned about the downsides of monoculture. It's benefits may even outweigh them.

But that may depend on the amount of sun.

Farming and fishing are two ways to work your ass off for virtually no return.

Now that all planting is complete, I now begin the truly difficult part of farming, watching crops grow and cattle graze.

Oh the glamour of country life! Back-breaking labour and mind-numbing boredom all in one.
