Pink Orchid 2024: Story Event for Women-Centric Erotica - Official Support Thread

I am intrigued! I wonder if this might be a decent starting point for me? I haven’t written a single piece of erotica before, but if I start with “what I know,” then it will probably wind up being about a woman who aspires to be her own boss and whose literal job is trying to make sense.

Any and all advice welcome! 🙏
Advice is: Write it.

If I can pull off great success as a man writing femslash… write what you know is probably a good idea too. Best of luck. I’d beta read, but bdsm isn’t really my kink, the God of War story was a one-off.

Edit- just read the thread. You may not have been talking about bdsm. Apologies if so.

Gay Male female agency stories- Remember that not every story here has to feature sex. I have an idea for a story where a young man struggling with polyamory is encouraged to meet gay men in college by a promiscuous bisexual girlfriend writing a psychology essay. She wants to help him get over homophobia from past bullying trauma. They visit a gay bar, he meets several men who get him calmed down to the ideas that they are just people, no different from anyone else. One kisses him on a dare, but he’s not turned on, so he considers it a failed college experiment. And is still friends with the men when all is said and done. Add in enough explicit discussion of gay sexual relationships and you still have erotic material. Long as you don’t condemn the orientation, you should be fine. That’s what I’m telling myself.

Finished mine today! Now I just need to come up with a title and edit it. How’s everybody doing on theirs?
Mine blew up into over 20K words by the time I considered it a first complete draft. Now as I go through it editing and re-phrasing, it's at 22K, as I think of subtle additions.

I'm a shitty, amateur writer, and sometimes lose focus. And I'd usually get to a point of just posting it to move on to something else. But I'll save this one for your event in February.

I don't yet have a story, for this event or for anything else. I have several recent batches of fictional writings, which I extend, in the hope that character interactions will develop into stories. Often, this has been my process (and some readers might snark that this explains everything). Sometimes, it works. Writing erotica is once again receiving much of my discretionary time, so something for Pink Orchid might develop. In a homage to Matthew Perry's Chandler: Could I be any more vague?

I've several stories in progress that would fit nicely into the category—I'm having trouble deciding on one. If I don't get them up for sale in the next few weeks, they'll be past their sells-well dates, and I can't put one (or more) in the event.

Didn’t really follow that, but I hope you’ll have one (or more) to spare in a few months.

Well, it should've read If I get them up in the next few weeks, not if I don't. Sheesus!!! I'm trying not to ruin sales by putting things here too fast.

Finnished the research on mine, although it's set as far from Finland as possible. It'll have three things woven through the story. Contemporary news articles about the settlement it's based around, the central modern day characters, and a diary they find from an ex WW1 nurse who moved to the area.

Not going to be a lot of sex in it, but I'm hoping it'll hit the emotions.

I think I tend to run out of steam by the time I reach that length. Even 10K is a lot for me.
I know...

But i got carried away.

It's more of a character profile of my favorite female character (I know O doesn't like her), where she's told she must go to three counseling sessions for being abrasive at work and irritating her co-workers. So, there's a lot of dialog, where she's talking to the counselor and her husband, explaining her POV about everything, then finally going back to work to beat up her boss.

I'm trying to see what I should delete to shorten it. But I LIKE what I wrote. It is what it is.

So. My cunning plan is that whatever stand-alone story I first publish in January, goes into this. As eight times out of ten my narrator and / or MC is female, I can’t see how it would fail to qualify.

You, @Lifestyle66, carried away. Say it ain't so, Joe!

I wrote one which is Finland-adjacent. :) Prior to the Viking Age. A different time, a different culture. I'm pretty sure it can't be submitted here.
I don't know about that. As long as everyone is over 18, a historical story seems to get a bit of leeway. Have a read of ChloeTzang's https://www.literotica.com/s/huginns-yule. It's got rape, pillaging, torture, murder, and a bit of sex, all set in the Viking era. It won the 2019 Winter comp.

Deedee was a secondary character in my first Pink Orchid story, and she might be the only secondary character in any of my stories that I'm moved to write about. I feel like there's something tragic about Deedee. I haven't figured her out. If I can figure her out in time, then maybe her story is my entry.

I'm struggling with mine. The "writing style" I've chosen to go with isn't what I normally do exactly, and writing from a first-person female perspective is proving more difficult than I thought. I don't suppose you would be able and willing to read the opening page or so of what I've got thus far, even though it's still a first draft? To let me know if the 'style' is working, or if I should scrap it and start over with something else.

Please don't feel obligated to assist me if you don't feel up to the task, by the way. Time is precious. I certainly won't take offence!
