Pmann discusses Lit Economics- Demand for P vs V

I do.

I have my obvious favorites.
People I secretly crush on.
Platonic besties.
Indifference.
People who I think, “Fuck that dude,” everytime they post.
I can relate. There are people I see as favorites....some stay, most have disappeared, crushes, yea all that, but that's more a thing I keep in my head. There is no rolodex. Some of that changes over time. Look at any number of the popularity threads. They are chuck full of litsters getting named off.

Which circles back around to the premise of the thread....

Are we trying to define efforts in pursuit of pussy and dick and what is quality or not? Idk. Seems like mental masturbation to me.

I feel like a vacillate between a few of those. 😆

For some reason, you’re double quoted here. Oh well.

Of course people think this. Whether or not you admit it, most people seem to think this way. You take a mental note of someone’s postings or attitude or whatever, and then you may or may not act upon it.

But we all shape our opinions about people here based on whatever is important to us. And, the Venn Diagram of what is important to people here overlaps pretty well.

Now… WTF is mental masturbation!? Explain! I only know regular masturbation, of which I’m a HUGE fan. So if there’s a new way of doing it, help a brother out, please.

Urban Dictionary- Mental Masturbation

The act of engaging in useless yet intellectually stimulating conversation, usually as an excuse to avoid taking constructive action in your life.

Guy 1: "If only I had taken Cindy to my high school prom, I could have fucked her instead of that loser Jeff and then now she would be my girlfriend."

Guy 2: "Dude, stop that mental masturbation right now and go out and meet a new girl!"

Wow there example doesn't even match the definition. That conversation is neither engaging or stimulating its just makes you sad for Guy 1.

Yea, I just google it. I thought about it a minute. It works. Barely.

Maybe... Mental masturbation is closely related with Mental Gymnastics?

Our Brains Love Mental Gymnastics

“Mental gymnastics” happen when our brains spiral into destructive thought patterns—making up excuses or arguments for unjustifiable decisions or situations.

In other words, they’re “all the thoughts that are within play to keep you from doing that exact thing you need to do,” psychotherapist Shemena Johnson, Psy.D., L.M.F.T., explains to Shine.

mental gymnastics

The act of trying to justify actions or validate opinions not supported by any facts. A means of dealing with cognitive dissonance.
"Hey Jessica, you're really pretty today."
"Oh so you're saying that yesterday I was looking like shit. Also you're saying that because I'm a white fit woman. That makes you a pathetic misogynist and racist. Let's not mention the fact that if I didn't pander to your sexuality, I would be called unattractive and ugly. You, John, are a dumbass and a patriarchal pig, do you know how stressful it is to be a woman and having to look sexy 24 7 just so men get horny in this society? You don't, because you are such a privileged white male."
"Wow Jessica that was some serious mental gymnastics you did right there..."
