(CNN)The State Department inspector general provided Congress on Wednesday with documents that included materials President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani had given to the department earlier this year containing unproven claims about Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
The documents, which were obtained by CNN, include claims against the Bidens that formed the basis of President Donald Trump's accusations in his July call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as accusations against former US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, who was recalled earlier this year and whom Trump also criticized in the call. In addition, the packet contains internal State Department emails from officials discussing articles critical of Yovanovitch, calling some of it a "fake narrative."

‘Serious and urgent’: New whistleblower says political appointee attempted to interfere with IRS audit of Trump or Pence taxes

A new whistleblower has filed a complaint alleging a Trump-appointee attempted to interfere with the IRS tax audit of President Donald Trump or Vice President Mike Pence.

The Washington Post reports the whistleblower, whose name is unknown, says they were “told at least one Treasury Department political appointee attempted to improperly interfere with the annual audit.”

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (D-MA) received the complaint in July. Saying it raises raises “serious and urgent concerns” he has characterized it as containing credible evidence of “potential ‘inappropriate efforts to influence’ the audit program.”

So urgent that Neal waited months before taking action, no wonder Congress has a lower approval rating than Trumpski!

If his or her complaint was conceived as a covert political action operation, it could not have been more effective. No, says the president and his defenders. It’s just “BULLSH*T,” tweeted the rattled Trump. His conversation with the Ukrainian president was “perfect,” he intones. To doubt its perfection is to join the ongoing “deep state” conspiracy to get him.

Trump’s defenders, while awash in bad faith and lies, are correct about one thing: there is a subterranean conflict that pulses beneath partisan clashes between congressional Democrats and the Republican president. It is a clash of bureaucratic factions, fought with leaked (or planted) narratives disseminated by allies in the media.

As in Watergate, the Trump crisis pits a president who says there are no limits on his freedom of action against the institutional forces of the CIA and FBI. These agencies were, and are, adept at defending their interests in the Washington press corps. As in Watergate, the interests of the agencies and the Democrats overlap—they both seek to curb and remove a lawless president.
