The 'How To' Contest Support Thread

*dismissive sound* Who cares? Besides, if it goes that far it could be made into a cable TV series on Showtime late night.
Kinky, I never thought of that...but I think Cinemax might be a better place for it. :p

Someone should write a How To about coming up with good titles and descriptions.
That's a fantastic idea, my titles usually suck.

True, but Showtime came to mind because they've got a history of Sci-Fi shows. Stargate SG1, Outer Limits, etc. They'd sign you up. ;)

Anyway, it was just a thought. I'm off to perform a miracle. Later.

I know, but I'm all ready to submit and went to the submissions page, got it all ready and...no title.

That's odd. The title is one of the first things I come up with when I start working on a story.

Did you just volunteer to write the How To about titles? :D

It's either the first thing for me or I struggle with it, just depends.

Does that mean we have to start calling you Saint Aurora?

I've written whole story lines after coming up with a title and struggled for a month coming up with a title to a storyline. Some just hit me, some are annoying and drive me nuts. I usually throw them at my editor and get his ideas, though sometimes...well what I like and what he likes don't exactly mix.

You guys aren't taking titles halfway serious (and the little description thingy).

We all read the authors we know and they could just title their pieces 'Opus 69' and we'd always go and have a look.

For the rest of us, the title is crucial, just like the subby's headline on the boring op-ed. It's like the streetlady's painted smile and leather mini-micro. Which story would tempt you, 'Eve's Flesh' or 'A Partnership Problem for Adam'. I know we are in it for the fun, but I really want to waggle my bits to get the clientele to read my stuff.

Don't ever underestimate titles. They are your best selling point.
