Whenever someone asks a genuine question, whether it be about their writing, ideas, or even AI, the answers are usually unhelpful, condescending, and obnoxious. In my experience, no. It’s a generally helpful, often amusing, and occasionally annoying forum populated with a good portion of nice people who write smut. Some interactions are not so nice, of course, but you’d expect a few wankers here given that it’s a category topic…

My experience has been quite the opposite!

Everyone has been so sweet and helpful. I've truly been impressed!

The only issue I've had is my story chapters are stuck in pending. But it seems this happens sometimes. Other than that it's been quite a wonderful experience.

Maybe give it some time and get to know some people here!

Yes, it can be. And also to people they think they know as well sometimes.

But most people are nice. You might consider making contact by PM where your interactions don’t have vultures circling (I actually like vultures IRL).

But “AI is helpful to writing” is going to be a very hard sell here.

Regardless of that, I’m sorry your experience here has been negative.

You, as a person, are welcome here. Particularly if you want to learn things about writing without using AI to flesh out your ideas.

But if you're just going to defend AI and bitch at the fact that AI writing, even vaguely assisted AI writing, isn't allowed here, that's your problem to deal with. The rules are clear on the topic. And yes, "ChatGPT would you kindly reword this passage for me to make it more dramatic, in the style of (any writer)," counts as AI writing. Even if the original idea is yours, the reworded snippet stopped being yours when you didn't find your own words to say what you wanted to say.

My neural wiring makes me feel any criticism is a personal criticism, so I get it. But no one is saying you are not welcome. Many are disagreeing with your views (somewhat opaquely expressed) about the use of AI in writing.

That doesn’t mean they dislike you, they just dislike LLMs infringing on human creativity. Which is a perfectly valid stance to take.

For what it’s worth, there are a lot of genuinely good people around here. Yes, there's some firm opinions around a few subjects, but you'll find people on both sides of just about any topic you can come up with.

I never said anything about you being lazy. Prompts on writing sent to ChatGPT is writing with AI.

I am going to praise the people who are writing using their own words when they do it well. And when they don't, I'm going to offer to help them as best I can. And I'm not going shit on them for doing their best with the knowledge and experience they've had access to.
