Trump

And who do you back?
I'm in California so it doesn't really matter who I 'back' viscerally, or support with political activity, or vote for. Doesn't matter, because any Dem will take Cali in November. Doesn't matter, because our open primary is over two months away and I have no idea who will still be running in ten weeks.

Mea culpa: The only candidate I've ever done political work for is Jerry Brown but that was long ago.

Who do I favor? Bernie. Who could I stomach? Hillary. But I'm a member of the Green Party so in November I'll likely vote for Dr Jill Stein... UNLESS it looks close.

The June open primary is another matter; I have to think of it strategically. I may vote for Cruz, the nastiest of the lot, just to fuck with Tromp's delegate count, to help the GOP machine screw him out of the nomination. The nastier the GOP convention fight, the quicker the GOP will collapse. My vote *could* help make that happen. But if Bernie is still viable then, I'd vote for him.

So you and a whole bunch of others could go to an open primary vote for a candidate who has little chance of beating who you really want for POTUS just to ensure the candidate who has a chance against your choice doesn't get the candidacy?

Welcome to two-party politics and ratfucking and strategic nose-holding and enemy-of-my-enemy. No, it ain't like a multi-party parliamentary system. We don't always have good choices, not among viable assholes.
** CTHULHU IN 2016! **
Why pick the lesser evil?

That is one fucked up political system. I guess you folk got no one to blame but yourselves. For the people by the people, right?
You dare insinuate that bubble-headed TV-news consumers and McFood addicts get the gov't they deserve? Humpf.

EDIT: But yes, this is a dysfunctional system, carefully constructed by a Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, nurtured by extensive fear-hate-lies propaganda networks, and apparently spinning out of control. Yikes. Good thing I'll be dead soon.

Afraid I think the very idea of using a primary vote for someone in the opposition to your declared (or true) party affiliation just to set up your own party candidate better is sleazy behavior from the get go.

Anyone up for a rousing chorus of God Save the Queen. You all know the words well enough. Deep down inside you're all still English men and women.

You really think your politicians can do better? Certainly can't do any worse having some little old lady as head of state.

Oh wait a minute...

Or until November anyways.

We're going at this pick-a-leader stuff all wrong. Right now, only sociopaths have the drive needed to attain high office, and they have to deal with all the other powerful psychos. No, if we want gov't for, by, and of The People, we must directly involve said People. Pick names at random from (mandatory) citizen registration lists. Everyone of age is registered. Anyone could be selected for what are now elected positions. Opting-out is not an option.

We already did that in another thread. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN / THE FASCIST REGIME / etc

In the UK system, don't experienced mandarins actually run the ministries for their elected (supposed) superiors? How does that differ from an absolute monarchy with the realm ruled by the sovereign's advisors?

Trump's done....I dont see it. Frankly, no clue to what he is doing

Honestly I have no idea what he's doing but it's clearly working. Even if the higher ups get there way a brokered convention is insanity.

Yeah, that's the fun part! Tromp shows up with a score card showing 1300 delegates -- not all of whom are Tromp loyalists because county committees pick the actual people -- and he doesn't win on the first ballot because rules have been changed, people have been misdirected to the wrong place, delegates are disqualified, etc. The GOP machine has been cheating LOTS longer than Tromp has.

So his people raise an uproar. Fists are flung, then billy-clubs, then motorcycle chains (see Tromp's Angels), and then uncooperative delegates are tossed over railings, tear gas is loosed, non-lethal bullets fly, et fucking cetera. It will be quite entertaining.

Obama mocks Trump on foreign policy:

U.S. President Barack Obama said on Friday that Donald Trump’s recent comments that South Korea and Japan should acquire nuclear weapons show the leading Republican presidential candidate is not well informed on international relations.

“What the statements you mentioned tell us, they tell us that the person who made the statements doesn’t know much about foreign policy or nuclear policy or the Korean peninsula, or the world generally,” Obama told a news conference at the conclusion of a nuclear security summit.

Truck Fump!

Sarah Palin flops with weird speech about immigrants ‘seduced’ with ‘teddy bears and soccer balls’

Sarah Pailin stood in for Trump and blew it badly. And not in a good way.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin didn’t get the reaction she wanted during her speech promoting Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy to the Milwaukee County Republican Party on Friday night.

“What the heck are you thinking, candidates? What the heck are you thinking when you’re actually asking for more immigrants — even illegal immigrants, welcoming them in,” Palin said of Trump’s opponents. “Even inducing and seducing them with gift baskets: ‘Come on over the border and here’s a gift basket of teddy bears and soccer balls.”

But footage of Palin’s appearance showed audience members looking at her with bemused expressions. The Washington Post noted that the former vice-presidential cancidate had received no applause eight minutes into her speech, though there were “some eye rolls and phone checking.”

Palin was there as a surrogate for Trump in advance of next week’s state GOP primary. The party’s other presidential candidates, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, also spoke at the event.

Joke's on Palin......the Feds haven't done that at all. To be blunt, immigrants are why our demographic time bomb hasn't gone off like it has in Europe and Japan, exploding the debt worse despite the insanely high costs of three wars (counting Libya) and billionaire/millionaire tax cuts (which amount to subsidies when you consider that they already benefit more from the Federal Government and should certainly pay higher taxes than the rest of us). Quite frankly, I'm tempted to propose that we encourage more immigrant and grant amnesty just to keep that population growth going. Hell, thanks for the suggestion, Governor Palin.....teddy bears and soccer balls.....anything that keeps the population from aging as fast as the rest of the developed world. :D

Joke's on Palin.....-:D

The joke is on Trump. How could anyone ask 'Salad Tongued Sarah' to speak for them and expect she could help them, even if she remembers all the words?

I'm amazed she's been able to pull off her stitck for so long after the 2000 election catastrophe.

Oh come on. I loved, "So much green and gold....er...green and gold...until I'm dead and cold".

WTF does that even mean?

Does the US fire all their civil servants every time the regime changes? Secretaries or ministers same job, different title. But the bureaucratic minions stay the same for years.

Belgium went through a constitutional crisis a few years ago. Had no governing party in power. The King and the bureaucrats ran the government. Taxes still got paid and collected. Pensions and such still went out. I doubt any of us day to day would even notice if the politicians all vanished.

As long as you have a head of state and a bureaucracy you don't actually need politicians. They just give us a sense of having some tiny degree of say in how things are done.

I would hardly call England, Scotland, Wales, Canada, Australia and New Zealand fascist regimes. The Nordic countries have constitutional monarchies. Many EU countries do too. You will probably find republics in the world are far more fascist than modern monarchies.

No African nation which rejected colonial rule and adopted a Westminster parliamentary system devolved into dictatorship.

The tyranny of the mob is more to be feared.

Clearly working? Whats working? that he has alienated large voting segments of the country?
