I don't think I'll be playing it again...
Reminds me of Pestillence's "Spheres" album, only with more tooth-drilling dissonance. And a much worse mix. Have you tried Behemoth, Neil? They at least have the "weird masks" thing down pat, plus their music is both heavy and technical, but with more structure.
This is as much a good jumping-in point as anything: https://youtu.be/HKWqzjQAv14
Regarding Edenbridge: They're always playing catch-up to either Nightwish or Epica, only without the really touching or attention-grabbing song ideas the former two bands have. If you're in the market for this style of music, you could try Furor Gallico. Their mix of folk and metal is pretty damn epic, plus their vocalists are doing an awesome job. Here, try this: https://youtu.be/xpPGidXA_u8
Thanks - I'll check out both. I seem to recall that I've heard Behemoth, but I don't have anything by them.
And congratulations of your recent win, with your "Express Delivery" story!
Haken : Vector
Haken : The Mountain
I know these guys are good, but I'm struggling to "enjoy" them.
In fairness, though, I'm hearing the music in the background while I'm working. The Mountain is playing again right now, and I'll try to give it a bit more focus...
@Haulover: Regarding Haken... I've given some of their music a fair shake, but it's not clicking for me either. Some parts seem to exist merely because they're cool, not because they add anything to the song. Leaving stuff out can be more important to songwriting as cramming every good idea in.
On that note: AC/DC - Hell's Bells
McStine and Minnemann
(Randy) McStine and (Marco) Minnemann
This is my first listen to this new collaboration. McStine and Minnemann play everything on the album with no guests. Sounds exactly like I would expect from these two with no complaints for that from me. I am reminded here and there of The Fringe but not overly. My one gripe is the songs are all short - clocking in at two or three minutes each with one over four minutes. I am just getting into the song when boom - it stops. I wish they had developed these a bit more.
