I'd say "had" an amazing voice. Renaissance re-formed for a performance about 10 years ago, and I saw her fronting Magenta (!!) for a few tracks about 15 years ago. She was good, but the incredible range and the purity are no longer there, but it was great to see her.


I'm out of touch - haven't seen / heard this album.

Sadly true on Haslam. Isn't she the last of the originals?

Your Wilderness came out in 2016. It was their last album until today. It was good

New Release Time!

Generally new releases hit now on Fridays but some came in on Tuesday.

First and foremost is the new Pineapple Thief with "Versions of the Truth." It's been four years since "Your Wilderness" as this was worth the wait. I think this is their strongest album. Typical Pineapple Thief - quiet intensity - but they have really settled into their groove, Fantastic album.

Next heavy weight is Rikard Sjoblom's Gungfly with "Alone Together." Sjoblom is from Beardfish and Big Big Train. I find he has a pleasantly whimsy to his style and vocally that is here but his trio is a bit more straightforward with some impressive guitar. Good album that surprised me a bit.

The big surprise for me this week was Italy's OAK Oscillazioni Alchemico Kreative with "Nine Witches Under a Walnut Tree." Nine songs each about a different witch. This honestly blew me away. Very reminiscent of Jethro Tull without being a copycat. Absolutely love this album.

From Canada comes Code 18 with "Human Error." Very spacey synthesizers. Very nice straightforward prog. Enjoyable.

US's Oceans of SLumber released their eponymous album. This is not prog it is heavy metal which is not a problem. Cammie Gilbert's singing is amazing - solid powerhouse. The male vocalist growling every fricking thing totally turned me off - but that is my personal bias - no growls.

Another surprise from down under Toehider with "I Like It!" The cover and the first song made me feel like this had nothing to do with prog but was a straight ahead hardcore punk album. Well, song two comes on perfectly suited for a seventies disco. Song three gave me some prog. Then a hard rocker. The song styles are all over the map. You have to be very open minded to like this album as no two songs are the same genre. This impressed me a lot as the band was well suited for each style. Nicely done.

Lee Abraham (Galahad alum) released Harmony/Synchronicity. Pretty straightforward prog but done really well. I liked this. The singer really reminds me on some other band and I can't put my finger on it. THe production and sound is great. Good album if you like textbook prog.

Finally from Germany is Johnny Bob with "Egbert's Barber Shop." The band and album name threw me but this was well done prog. Very solid, prog performed by very strong musicians - Very, very good.

I can appreciate the hours of dancer's practice, the diets and exercise, but I just don't get what the dance is about. Sometimes the music is nice (your choice was rather good but I think of the Mazurka from Coppelia is also very enjoyable, if a little quick.
But the Clog Dance (La fille mal gardée) is very amusing.

I can appreciate the hours of dancer's practice, the diets and exercise, but I just don't get what the dance is about. Sometimes the music is nice (your choice was rather good but I think of the Mazurka from Coppelia is also very enjoyable, if a little quick.

I went first as a boy scout. We had a ballet teacher come to the scout hall. She showed the basic moves and also how some messages are conveyed, like love, death, and the obvious one - a circling of the hands for Let's (or you) dance.

We then went with her to Sadler's Wells to see part of a rehearsal and to meet and talk with the dancers. We were very impressed with the bruises of the female dancers' legs, and the strength of the male dancers. We then saw a ballet and were able to follow the action.

BTW she now sells herself as an artist, and has a small art shop in eastern PA, on the Delaware. I went in there once and had a very brief conversation with her (the shop was busy and I didn't want to hold her up).

I saw Beardfish in Baltimore a few years ago. Love them! Sadly, I don't yet have any of Rikard's solo work yet. Gotta fix that.
