Political ideology = identity is... actually a thing.
Maybe not every facet of one's identity, and very much dependent on what that ideology backs.

As an example, there are people in various different minorities, cultural, sexual, etc, who are very, very important to me. If the political ideology you back ('you' in the abstract here, not any one person) suggests that these people should have fewer rights, or worse... we're not going to get on.

I can't see a way to not interpret who one supports politically as some kind of window into what that person prioritises, hence my original question.

Let me use the UK as an example. If you vote Green or Lib Dem, I have some idea that we can probably talk in good terms! I mean, maybe not. You may still be an asshole

It is funny in hindsight, I was quite taken aback at the time though. It's been a number of years and the memory is a bit hazy now. But I remember he started out all angry, and was acting tough, shouting and saying shit like "do you know who you're fucking with?".

I was pretty calm and denied, denied, denied. I was like Brett Kavanaugh at his confirmation hearings. I told him nothing was going on and to chill out and that I had to go. Then I got a hold of his wife who was at work and let her know about the shitstorm that was coming.

She smoothed things over with him and it just went away. However, it did freak me out for a day or two. I was wondering if I was traceable or whatever and considering the potential consequences to both of us. It was one of those come-to-Jesus moments where I thought I probably should leave Lit.
