Are you ready for some football!

Hey, that's my team of choice too whenever I'm feeling slightly English. :)
Aye. That's full contact. If someone doesn't get carried off the field with something dislocated, they didn't play it properly. :)

I've got nothing against the american variety. It looks really cool, and it's big fun once you know the odds and ends to the tactics. My only objection remains with the name. Sorry, but it defies all common sense to call it football.

The strategy of football is something similar to a war, with each play being a battle. It's a complex, thinking person's sport, coupled with it being a hard hitting Manly sport.

If I remember the story correctly, the game evolved from Rugby. In the old days, the major difference was the forward pass. It's evolved a long way. Men love it for the excitement and hard hits. I think most lady fans enjoy 22 guys in tight shiny pants ;)

LSU, my favorite team, sucked this weekend. If OSU had a kicker we would of lost. He missed three kicks and we won by one point. We are not national champions material this year.

So who is going to be this year? Anyone have any predictions?

Hey, Champions League Fantasy Football game is up! I must start a thread tomorrow. :D:devil:

Fantasy League? I love it!!!!!!!!!! We've got the Literotica Lunatics and just held a draft. Let me know Lauren and I'll play in your league also.

Just make sure you're drafting for the same sport ;)

Pro:
Raiders (I still have loyalties from the eighties)
Chiefs (I still have loyalties from the nineties)

SEC ('cause to hell with the rest):
Ole Miss (I still Grove)
LSU (No doubt about it, last year's LSU/Ole Miss game rocked... I was there, went all the way to the end)
Auburn

On American football:
It may just be me... but Emmett Smith, Joe Montana, Boomer, Namoth, Jim Brown, Unitas... these men are just in a different league of "badass" than anything I've seen in soccor or rugby (and I'm a fan of both). American Football is a warzone of pain and power, it is an amazing thing.

(speaking as a former MLB, I'm probably biased)

My favorite pro team? Used to be the Rams, when they were in Los Angeles. The Saint Louis Rams just doesn't sound right to me, so I'll go with the ever-popular Ain'ts.....I mean, Saints.

College team? Volunteers, of course :) followed closely by Auburn (Alabama sucks).

I will always root for the team I grew up rooting for, regardless of their recent ineptness...

I remain loyal to the San Diego Chargers.

Call me a homer, but I also root for SDSU in the college ranks. I am somewhat fond of Boston College, though I can think of no reason why except Doug Flutie, whom I admire and have long before he was a Charger.

Call it "Gridirion" or something if you can't get past the name. The two games require markedly different skill sets. American Football is all about specialization, so you could even say they require several different skill sets.

One similarity. Both are much better seen live and with some education in tactics and strategy. It allows you to notice what is developing before it actually happens.

*HUGS*

As a life long and devoted cubs fan, I feel your pain when the bolts step onto the field.

Yesterday, I was looking through some websites on the rules of American football, and most of them went on and on and on and on, but forgot to even say simple things like: how many players in each team.

And I sincerely hope that if my Pads don't get the Wild Card, your Cubs do...

Eleven.

Yes, I love American football.

Well, I know that now. But thanks. :D

Are you going to join the other Fantasy League this time as well, even though there aren't any Danish teams? Pleeeease? I already posted the thread. ;)

Each team has a 53 man roster. on any particular play you may only have 11 players onthe field, so for every snap there are 22 players participating (11 offense and 11 defense).

On possession plays, your offensive team & defensive team change over during the play. But the same 11 guys remain out there until the play is over. there are unlimited substistuions, in fact you almost never see two snaps with the exact same guys on the field, unless the offense is running a hurry up or two minute drill.

With each snap, according to down & distance, your personel groupings change. The number of people at any particular position can change. For example you might have only 2 wide recievers on first down and as many as five on third down. Similarly you might have one or two tight ends, one or two running backs, 2 or three tackles. Just depends. but you will always have 11 total on the field. An extra man on the field is a penalty. You theoretically could go with fewer than 11, but there is no reason to I know of.

The defense also has 11, but they are even more varried then the offense and can have from 3 to five line men, from two to 6 line backers, from 3 to 6 defensive backs. Down, distance and overall defensive philosophy will determine the exact grouping, but always it comes to 11 men total.

It made absolutely perfect sense to me, Colly!

But then, I've been known to wake the dead with my yells at the television during certain football games

I never saw more than a total of 5 minutes of American Football, so my understanding of the rules is ziltch. The only games that are ever on TV around here are the the superbowl finals, on a subscription sports channel.

I watch plenty of European Football matches, but even so, I had some trouble selecting the players for my Champions League FF team. I only really know one team, the only Portuguese team in the competition...
